  1. Not which one you like best, or you think is the best... but the one you actually use most.

I voted other, then realized there was a MS Other option, oh well.

On the PC is use Avant Browser which is based on IE but far far better.

On the mac I love safari but ever since 1.0 I've not been able to browse forums without constantly refreshing manually. So I use Moz instead for the forum, which is sad cause I don't really like Mozillia, I just dislike it less then IE for OSX (which runs like a bloated turd)

  7. Opera. Certainly the quickest browser out there. I have to use IE at work, and it really is useless. Even Netscape 4.76 (the last version before AOL f**ked them up) still beats IE for most things. However, Netscape (and Mozillia which I also use from time to time) are full internet suites - e-mail, browser, newsgroups, etc - whereas Opera is just a plain internet browser, no more, no less!

  9. I used to like Opera but it just doesn't work on the modern web (IMHO).

I think Mozilla is great -- easily as good as IE in most things with better features.

If you want browser only, then try out Mozilla Firebird: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/

Flaytus, there is a MacOS versions of Firebird too (if you just want browser) or something even more slim, Camino: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/

As for the fastest browser, nothing can beat Lynx.

I always keep JAVA and JAVAScript turned off on all my browsers, so there are quite a few websites that don't work for me. But I look at it this way, if people are stupid enough to code in JAVAScript, then they don't deserve my custom! It's quite frightening how many viruses are distributed through that JAVAScript rubbish. Also disabling JAVA gets rid of all the pop-ups.

  11. Well, too many sites I frequent require Javascript and Java to function properly (e.g., internet banking).

Also, Mozilla has an EXCELLENT anti-popup system in-built.

  12. I used to use Netscape up until about 3 years ago. I am using IE now, but I think I may download and take Mozilla out for a test drive. I don't like installing lots of software. I am a minimalist and think the more stuff you have on your computer, the more that can go wrong. However, I also want a popup blocker and Mozilla has one built in.

There is a bug with Safari's cache. You can make it read only and it make the forums work properly. I can't remember how to do it but you can search here and find it.

Safari Enhancer will turn off cache and allow the forums to work perfectly.

Used to be a diehard Netscape/Mozilla fan. Then resented the AOL involvement (since I'd been rooting for the Netscape guys from day one).

Now, I use IE6 - probably for the same reason most do. It comes with the computer. :c*

Still keep a version of Netscape handy to check site compatibilty.

  18. Opera 7 has great pop-up filters too, only brings up requested pop-up windows.... Does not like Javascripts tho...

Opera 7 has way better compatibilty than 6 did. Especially on "Identify as MSIE 6.0" mode =)

    Powerful Tabbed interface

If u havent tried opera, or if u like mozilla, you should really try it!

I use Mozilla exclusively. IE is crap.

I've been using Mozilla for over a year now and the next pop-up I see, will be my first. Using a dail-up service, this is very important.

When was the last time you saw a pop-up with you browser?

I mostly use IE6 and the 2nd browser is Netscape 7.1.

IE6 is around 90% of the time and I also use Outlook Express, Yahoo WebMail and Netscape Mail.

    1) Safari, I use the enhancer, I turned of the Brushed Metal interface with it, but none of the options seemed to help my forum issue. Maybe I'll give it another try.

    2) Camino crashes. And when it crashes it likes to corrupt itself. Other then that its ok I guess.

Update, used Safari enhancer. No option there helps. no option on the debug menu helps either. *sigh*

also like I said for PC browsing I cannot suggest Avant Browser enough. Its so sweet.

Update to the update on Safari: I even tried the thing where you delete teh cache and place an empty text file in its place so it cannot be recreated. No go.

  28. just make the cache file read only.
    ctrl=click on the file
Choose "get info" from the popup menu
    Then under "ownership & Permissions"
    Set all to read only
    "Terminated!" :firing:

    1. In-built pop-up stopper (that is fully configurable!!)
    2. In-built cookie stopper (again, that is fully configurable -- in terms of which sites you allow cookies and which you don't)
    3. Tabbed browsing (once you start, you can't go back)
    4. Able so save bookmarks of "groups of tabbed" pages (i.e., multiple webpages in one bookmark)
    5. If Mozilla ever crashes (very rare), it won't ever take down the OS / Windows Explorer with it
    6. Comes with very good e-mail client that won't ever get hit by Outlook Express type exploits.

Of course, it is open source as well and is constantly being updated and improved!

    What it doesn't have:
    1. I'm pretty sure that it still doesn't support ActiveX controls and VB script
    2. No inbuilt JAVA engine (but I would suggest that you get Sun JAVA even for IE anyway)
    3. And of course, heavily IE optimised pages may not display properly (though this has been much improved in newer versions of Mozilla).

On the balance, I think Mozilla is an excellent web browser. I was a long time user of Internet Explorer (pretty much since IE4 came out) but since the newer versions of Mozilla, it has completely won me over.

    Regards.
