  1. Hi everyone.. I'm at a loss here! Tmpgenc used to work great for me, I used it all the time to convert avi's to mpg files for VCD and DVD.. However, for like the last couple months now, it pretty much ALWAYS reboots my machine.. Using the same avi files and everything. I've got an AMD Athalon XP 2200+, 1.8ghz and 640 mb RAM.. After reading some posts on here I was wondering if conflicting codecs are the cause of this? I don't really know much about managing codecs etc, but I know I have a lot.. wouldn't be surprised. Can anyone shed a little light on dealing with codecs, how to tell which are best and which are worth deleting, anything about how to tell which ones could conflict? Really, if anyone's experienced anything like this with tmpgenc I'd appreciate the help.

    Thanks in advance

Usually when a problem like this comes up it's actually a hardware problem, not s/w or codecs etc. If it was software then it just wouldn't work, not reset your system like it does.

Encoding is CPU intensive, driving it at near 100% usage. A weakness in the system will show up when you're encoding. It can be ram, cpu, power supply or something on the motherboard. Swapping parts is the only way to diagnose the problem, starting with your ram.

    Good luck.

BTW, you're not overclocking are you?

How long after you start encoding does it re-boot?
