  1. Hi,

I'm currently experienceing a problem with the above mentioned recorder (Philips DVDR890).

When using the following media http://www.datawrite.co.uk/dvd/+r/gen2.htm (DataWrite 4x DVD+R) - the machine will act like it is recording for about 3 seconds - then return the following error code on the LCD display D7FC58422 - and not record anything.

I've spoken to Philips - they sent me the latest firmware (FF12R), which should have resolved the issue - it hasn't.

    Any ideas??

Has anyone had good / bad results with DataWrite media on set-top boxes??

    TIA

I've never had any problems with datawrites but have had the same error as you.
I've had it with a few different media types, from previous discussions I convinced myself it was a media issue though I've had the fault on brands that I know have been tested on dvdr880s.
I've found that this sort of fault occured more and more until today when my dvd recorder has virtually stopped recording to anything but dvd+rw.
Try a few different brands, you're better off spending a little more on media to guarantee you don't end up with a pile of coasters - I've made about 25 in the last month.
If it gets any worse get it returned - mine's going ASAP.

  3. I gave up with the unit eventually - it wouldn't record onto any media!

The store gave a full refund - no questions asked. Top marks to Costco.

I'm getting exactly the same message (D7FC58422) from my DVDR 880. First, I thought, it might be a media problem, but then I tested the expensive Philips DVD+R originals. Same problem. Same as with one of the previous posts - it got worse and worse, and the device is only 6 months old! I'll return it to the store tomorrow.
