  1. I'm trying to capture VHS using Adaptech Videoh DVD (USB2). I'm finding the included software, Sonic MyDVD, cumbersome and buggy. I'd like to use Movie Mill - I downloaded Movie Mill 2.0, but when I try to capture I get a message saying "Failed to find capture device. Please reinstall the drivers."

Can anyone help with this? What drivers is it talking about, and where can I get them? Is it even possible to use Movie Mill 2.0 with the Adaptech device?

  2. I don't think it is possible. I have the videoh dvd usb 2.0 edition version 2210. I think, from what I read, that the chipset is different and therefore not detected. I saw someone say give up on Movie Mills for capturing. I'm looking for another capture software for this Adaptec device. Choose a different path man and save some time.

  3. Since I originally posted I emailed Adaptec about this issue. Their response: "Currently, the only software supported for capturing with the Videoh! unit is the bundled software that was included with the product. Please check our website for program updates as they are released."

I gave up on the Adaptec and purchased the Snazzi III, which uses Movie Mill - blows MyDVD out of the water, imo. This works fine for the most part, but I'm finding I have audio sync problems with old VHS tapes when I use the MPEG2 capture/encoder devices (ie, the Snazzi). But I don't really want to mess with the ATI cards. So now I'm thinking I might get a Canopus ADVC-100 to "capture" (not really capturing" avi files, and then I can edit and encode using TMPGenc.

The further down this path I go the deeper I get

  4. JCat is correct. You may have heard others are able to use movie mill but not with the new chipset. The only other capture software that works with this chipset is Sage Recorder (www.sage.tv). Its shareware and gives you more control over your capture than mydvd.[/url]

  5. O.K fellas. I visited the sage site. Read. Downloaded some files. Read some more. Then re-read again. Another possibility with this software from sage was the use for a PVR. Daddy like. However, I still can't get this to work with just my external adaptec usb 2.0 device. Mine is just an analog input. Nothing fancy. It uses the 2210 driver. I got the media center software that but it doesn't recognize my device. I pray it's a setup option I'm missing because I would love for this software to work. What driver are you guys using and what are your settings? Thanks in advance.

  6. I was not able to get Sage to work, and like I said, the Adaptec people told me that the only software supported for capturing with the Videoh! unit is the bundled software that was included with the product - ie, Sonic MyDVD.

    Sucks.

  7. Jcat, I spoke with sonic too. I was told that I could not use another version of MyDVD that was different than the bundled version I received (4.04). I upgraded to 4.5 and no problem. Though I may not trust sonic for the most part in what they say, I feel they may be telling me the truth. I think that you may be right but I would like to hold on for a few more days. The web site (sage) said it would work with the media center version for pci. I don't have media center version. I just have the Videoh DVD usb 2.0 edition. It wasn't meant for tv but I was hoping that the software would help me have more flexability than MyDVD. Anyway, thanks for responding so quickly. I may just have to stick with MyDVD.

  8. hut, I have the videoh 2210. It came bundled with MyDVD 4.5. I tried to upgrade to MyDVD 5, but it did not recognize the capture device (ie, the Adaptec. I proceeded to try MOvie Mill and Sage Recorder with no luck. That's when I wrote to Adaptec - not to Sonic, but to Adaptec - to ask about compatibility.

I do wish you better luck than I had, though! Like I said, I gave up and got the Snazzi III, which uses Movie Mill - a vastly superior piece of software, imo. Now, though, I think I'm going to change yet again, this time to the Canopus ADVC-100, so I can capture DV (avi) and hopefully solve some of the audio sync problems I've been having with older VHS tapes.

jcat the VideOh! DVD Media Center USB 2.0 Edition is using I belive is a Broadcom chip aka better know as Vision Tech Kfir 2 chip so both Movie Mill and Sage dosen't work with this chip and Movie Mill was only made for C-Cube chip now know LSI.
Far I know of the only 3rdparty tools that may work is SnapStream Personal Video Station works with the VideOh! DVD Media Center USB 2.0 Edition.
