I hope someone out there can help me with this problem i'am having with nero 6.I've ripped the files i need from dvd shrink, but when i go to burn them with nero 6 the discs won't play in dvd player or on the pc using power dvd it keeps saying error on the disc and that the disc might be dirty or scratched but the discs are fine,i managed to copy them no problem on a dvd rw disc and they play no problem but it won't on dvdr's.Has anyone else had the same problem and could maybe tell me were i've gone wrong or if there is a problem with nero 6.I try to burn them under dvd video option in nero 6 is this the right way to burn these files?

Sounds like yer doing everything right.

As long as u put the vob, bup, and ifo files (Not the folder they are in) that shrink produced INTO the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero provides in DVD-Video mode, they should play fine.

With the info you've given....I'm leaning towards cheapo R media. It's pretty bad when yer puter won't play a disk it created.

I do have a question tho...if yer puter tells u that the disk is scratched, how can u copy it to an RW? If it won't play to watch....why will it play to copy? Or did u mean that when u burn the shrink files to an RW it plays fine? If that's the case...change yer R media to a better quality brand.

The DVD-R discs that i'am using bodene are yellow datawrite 4x with the black writing.I'am using a BTC dvd writer and using nero 6 to burn the files i've ripped with dvd shrink but still getting nothing but coasters as none of the discs will play in my stand alone dvd player.Have you any idea if these discs are any good or is that what is causing me all the problems?

Never heard of Datawrite dvd blanks, Colby. Sorry.

Brands I'd stick with are Maxell, Ritek, Memorex or Phillips. I'm in the USA and all those brands are available here, but I'm not sure if they carry all those in Edinburgh.

Here's what I suggest....go over to the DVD media forum and inquire there about datawrite brand. They're prolly be better suited to help u with this issue. They may have suggestions regarding your *scratched/dirty* problem that I haven't thought of.

All that being sed....I still believe your problem will end up being media related. if your RW discs work, but these datawrite R's don't....I'd try a better brand of R just to see. Have u tried burning just a regular data backup...like mp3's or other files onto one of these discs?

  6. May I suggest that you take your burnt DVD's to a friends place and try it on their player/s as it's probably the player. I've seen this many times and it usually comes down to either the media or the DVD player not being able to handle the low reflectivity of the burnt discs surface. DVD RW's tend to be shinnier so the players can handle that better.

Has your standalone player EVER played a DVDR you've burnt? Not all players will play DVDR's. And many players are very finicky about media, keep trying until you find one it will play.

  8. The DVD disc might have been damaged so as to inhibit playback operation. this is the error message ive been getting from my dvd-r when playing through power dvd. the problem started when i used nero burning rom 6, it didnt happen with nero 5.5. i was wondering if nero 6 is the problem or there is a problem with powerdvd? the discs are clean and play in my stand alone players no problems.

Dear customer, Please install PowerDVD XP 4.0 patch http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/download/dl_patch.jsp?dl_id=82&ProdId=28 We found this problem happens under some situations. Some buring softwares change CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive's registration data. Please contact Nero to get program update. Be free for further questions. Regards,

the power dvd error is common and is not a problem with the disc so your player just doesnt seem to like playing the dvd-r you are using

I had the same problem when I used Nero 6. The disc would work fine using windows media player or any of my stand alone dvd players. I figure it must be an issue between Nero 6 and Power DVD.

  10. Using Power DVD ver 5 and Nero ver 6.0.0.19 works just fine for me. I burn to Ritek G04's and have yet to have any problems with any players that profess to playing DVD R's. Also the DVD's play just fine on my PC with Power DVD.
