  1. I would like to bckup some store bought vhs tapes using this standalone dvd recorder but when the vcr is hooked up the recorder the display reads "error". When I have tried to backup a home made video it does fine. So I'm guessing its a macrovision issue. Anyone know of a free or cheap way around this issue so I can backup all my store bought vhs tapes before they are no good?

I've had one of these Digital Video Stabilizer's for a few years and it works fine. It is a fancy name for Macrovision remover. I have this exact model and paid $40 many years ago.

Much better deal at $18. I've also ordered from MCM Electronics many times with no problems. Hope this helps.

  6. I think that there is a good possibility your VHS tapes will outlast your recorded DVDs.

Somehow I tend to believe that...yet we are being told the opposite...
We r also told to back upour digital stuff every so many years. I just ordered 50 Verbatim DVDmedia ..rated 100 years.
    Good deal at OD...see techbargains......50 dvd-r or+r for $50...tx(depends)

  9. When Vhs video came out in the late 70's, the media pounded the public with transfer your home 8mm movies before they deteriate and fade away to videotape which will last indefinitely.

When the major networks want to preserve a video production now they transfer it to film.

What bothers me about the media it seems to all speak with the same voice.
