I would like to bckup some store bought vhs tapes using this standalone dvd recorder but when the vcr is hooked up the recorder the display reads "error". When I have tried to backup a home made video it does fine. So I'm guessing its a macrovision issue. Anyone know of a free or cheap way around this issue so I can backup all my store bought vhs tapes before they are no good?

I think that there is a good possibility your VHS tapes will outlast your recorded DVDs.

When Vhs video came out in the late 70's, the media pounded the public with transfer your home 8mm movies before they deteriate and fade away to videotape which will last indefinitely.
When the major networks want to preserve a video production now they transfer it to film.
What bothers me about the media it seems to all speak with the same voice.
