Sometimes, I will get an error trying to decode a certain title set even though the DVD is clean and I played each chapter in the Apple DVD player before attempting backup. This is rare but does occur on DVDs such as "Signs" and "Apocolypse Now" for example.
Why does this happen and is their a way around it?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

i have the same problem on some, specifically signs. For me its title set 2 that just wont copy over!
i decided to just push skip, have it do the rest, and then put in text files with the names of the missing files (ie video set 2)
then dvd2one will do the video, but it will stop when it gets to that video set, which for me was past the video.
so i just have a dvd thats got menu and movie (which is fine for me, because i cut all the extras out any how)
essentially it just makes a movie only copy with a working menu.
hope this helps some.
at the moment i have found no way to get around this.
The "play your dvd in chapters for a few seconds" doesnt work, or at least it didnt for me.
you can try that, make sure apple dvd player loads, and play each chapter for a few seconds. then see if it helps.
again, it didnt for me and i have yet to get it to work. -
I will try skipping the error title sets and replacing with a text file. What does a title set do anyway?
Thanks -
it depends on what title set it is....
ive noticed that the ones that give you trouble dont contain ANY video content, but rather seem to be there to prevent backing up.
for example, SIGNS DVD
VTS_02_0.ifo
VTS_02_0.bup
VTS_02_0.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB
It will NOT copy the bolded items over. they are a total of maybe 300k.
play them from the dvd directly to say VLC and its just a black screen for about 1 second
see of no value, yet without it any archiving apps freak and cant do anything.
see where im going with this....
now if it was these that wouldnt copy...
VTS_01_0.ifo
VTS_01_0.bup
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
this would be a differenct story. This is the video ie the entire movie.
(note this can be different for different dvd's. the .vob's that are 1024 megs are the video ones for the movie. they can be any VTS_0X.X.vob) -
one work around i just found on some dvd's. is that dvd backup would have problems with certain titles sets, so i would hit skip and remember the the number. then wehn i used osex, it go just fine, then when it was done it would say bad disc image or somehting to that nature. but them i'd take the parts i had to skip in dvdbackup and get them the osex rip and then drag them into the dvd backup rip and then the image was fine. another thing i'd do to sort of check this, was used dtox 1.2, to check the video ts folder even if it was under 4.3, cause in 1.2 it runs like an analysis before processing and then first time i did this i messed up and it told me bad dvd, then i fixed it and check it and it ran fine. i canceled when it began to process because i was only concerned if i forgot anything. just a though. usually one or the other ripper works but my res magazine dvd's would work in either. maybe this will help you.
pants on, pants off, pants the floor. -
true, however for my particular dvd, it gives the same error no matter which ripping app is used, dvd extractor (OS9) dvdbackup 1.3 or OSeX
im sort of out of luck now, so i just put it on the back burner for the moment.
but maype it will help netbilling
