I'm shopping for a new drive, I currently have a Sony DRU500a and its starting to act up. With all the compatability issues with Media.
I was wondering which drive takes the cheapest dvd media you find on the web like 4x .80-1.00 per Disc.
Thanks.

It all really depends on the individual user...
I've never used any burner other than my LG4040B and I paid $175 USD for it and it burns all formats (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM). It has also burned the "cheap" media flawlessly. -
Here I go with my stuck record impression...
Don't forget quite a few standalone DVD players will have problems playing back some media - writing to it is only half the story. -
I would not base a purchase on "cheap media" burning success. Not after reading what problems you may have after burning.
Sure, you could burn more inexpensive media. But will that media provide full problem-free 4.38 burns? And will it still be playable a year from now?
Just things to consider. :c)
High quality cheap media is another story. But if that were guaranteed with every disc, there'd be far fewer posts on this site. :c)There's no place like 127.0.0.1
The Rogue Pixel: Pixels are like elephants. Every once in a while one of them will go nuts.
