  1. Hello,

When I make a copy of a previously made DVD-R (for example copying a DVD of TV shows recorded previously on a DVD recorder), the copy won't play on my home DVD player although the original DVD will play. Am I doing something wrong when I'm making my backups? I use DVD Decrypter and then copy to DVD or Nero to copy the disc. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Tom

I would suggest that you use DVD Decrypter to burn the discs and well as reading them.

Failing that i don't really know what else to try, i personally don't use and like Nero for DVD burning and have never tried the other you mentioned.

But DVD Decrypter does burn the discs as well so try that and see if that works.

    I agree.

Why don't you just use DVD Decrypter: mode>iso>read

This will make you an ISO file on your HD of the DVD

    Then use DVD Decryptere: mode>iso>write

to burn it. It should play just fine.

Well, I have to copy my DVDs sometimes, and I follow this proceedure:

    1) Create a TEMP directory on my HD.
    2) Using Exployer, I open the DVD-R, then drag all the files from its VIDEO_TS folder into the TEMP.
    3) Open NERO, select DVD-VIDEO, put these files into that folder, then burn.

    Works every time.

  9. check the bit type of the disk to see if they are the same? I think your DVD recorder may be making the disk DVD-ROM and your burner is using something else.

No need to rip a DVD-R. Just copy with Nero.

DVD Decrypter is designed to decrypt css encoded DVD's. It does a lousy job of copying unencrypted dvd's tho. No idea why anyone would use it for that anyways when the source isn't encrypted.

Either do like SLK001 sed and drag the files onto the HD and burn, or use the copy disk function in Nero (not On the Fly).

I've used both methods with no problems. Just make sure you are putting the files into the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero provides if u use the HD dragging technique. If you forgot, that's why your copies won't play on your stand-alone.

You also have tons of experience and have been doing it awhile, and know precisely how everything should be set. Every time I've seen a newbie report their experience, things went wrong.

I'm gonna try it soon, cuz I'm gonna install my DVD-ROM. I want to save my burner for burning only. I'll check out your guides. Hopefully I can do it without errors also. =)

Nero 5.5.xx normally gives me a compliance error when coping on the fly. I will always rip first and then burn using DVD-Video template. I don't like wasting discs and time.

I have narrowed it down though to movies transcoded with DVD95copy will not play properly using on the fly. With over 100 backups it is difficult to remember which method you used.

Don't know if there is another program which does on the fly burning.
Think burnatonce can do it, but I couldn,t figure out how to use the program to burn a normal disc.

Yeah, I tend to forget that sometimes. Experience and knowledge tends to spoil people.

I have a Pioneer DVD-116 and a Pioneer (Compaq OEM) DVR-103 on opposite IDE channels on the primary IDE controller (not expansion). Flawless results. Even at 4x on the DVR-105 when I switch drive for faster copying.

My other system has a generic DVD-ROM on the Ultra ATA card and takes about 25 minutes for a copy at 4x, as buffer underrun kicks in because the controller doesn't like on the fly and the DVD-ROM sucks (my fault for buying junk, but that system rarely copies discs anyway.. mainly for ripping fast).
