  1. I am a newbie trying to make back-up DVD's. I tried every software out there, but no matter what I do I get coasters. My roomate has been making his own back-ups for some time, so I had him use my external burner on his computer. Using the same burner and media he was successful his first try. I believe there must be a configuration problem with my computer but I cannot determine what. Every program I used to shrink/burn gave me the same error ("There may be a problem with the medium; error burning DVD") and stopped burning at the same spot (25% into the process). Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Get your roommate to show you how .
You aren't holding your mouth right. You have to stick your tongue out a
little bit on the side , and grunt once in a while .

one thing i would try, is when you are burning, make sure you close everything that you dont need running. hit ctrl-alt-del and close things u dont need. disable anti virus programs, disconnect from the internet, etc

NEC 4X BURNER 2.0 USB external
FUJITSU LIFEBOOK C SERIES; WINDOWS XP HOME (BOUGHT 2002--BRAND NEW TO MARKET)

1ST TRY: DVD DECRYPTER; DVD2ONE, COPY TO DVD
2ND TRY: DVD DECRYPTER; DVD SHRINK; COPY TO DVD
3RD TRY: DVD DECRYPTER; DVD2ONE; PINNACLE CD/DVD INSTANTCOPY
4TH TRY: DVDXCOPY XPRESS (I LIKE THIS BEST EVEN THOUGH NOTHING WORKS)

  6. LIFEBOOK C1020...................................lists USB 1.1
    LIFEBOOK C1110 / LIFEBOOK C1110D..lists USB 2.0

    Which one do you have.

The transfer rate for USB V1.1 is about 12Mbps, where USB V2.0 is like 480Mbps. That's a big difference.

If you have USB V1.1 then you might haft to burn at 1x. And, like stated above, turn everything else off.

    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.

    Try DVDShrink/IMG Tools/Nero

I've been having major problems with the new DVDDecryptor, it's flakier than shit when burning (doesn't seem to support underrun correctly).

  8. im not sure what C series it is but it states it burns at .7x when i use copy2dvd and pinnacle instantcopy. i tried to change the rate but it still only burns at .7x which i think might be why it stops 3/4 the way through, let me know your thoughts

  9. .7X is a good indication you have USB V1.1. It's too bad you don't have a Firewire burner, I see (in the review) your ltop has a connector.

Check "Burn Proof" setting and turn it on if possible.

All I can think of is to try a different burning program. Like the one that came with your burner. What was it?

DVD movies are easy to burn. I have my authorizing program create a 'dvd folder' on hdd of my finished project. I try my project out with PowerDVD (from that folder) to make sure I'm happy with the results. I then start my burning software (RecordNow DX), select my DVD burner, choose "Data Disk" and drag in my 'VIDEO_TS' folder. Choose "Track at Once Closed", then burn. I'm not having any trouble using this routine. I'm also using DVD-RWs for my first run. I check out my project on TV and if I'm still happy I'll make the finished burn with an DVD-R disk. Erase my RW disk, project finished.

    Good luck.

I just had a brain storm! By you using a ltop it probably has every power down option enabled. If you were to 'time' that 25% and compare that time to the settings you're running for power down - power saving mode I'd say they match up. Right click on the desktop, choose Properties, then Screen Saver then Power, I believe you will see what I'm talking about. When you burn a disk you will need to set your power savings mode to 'Never' and disable all that other stuff. (and be running on A/C).
'Presentation' would be a good setting and turn of Hibernation.

    Good luck.
