I have been trying to encode a VOB file to an AVI file (so I can edit it in Premiere, Premiere dislikes the MPEG) yet I have been having troubles galore. The output file ends up with obviously fast video (as if somebody had increased the speed) and regular audio so the two don't match up.

I have tried several different settings. Here are two of the sets of settings (from most recent) I have used:

    Video:

    MPEG4 [.AVI] (ffmpeg)
    2000 kbits/s
    91 min keep in
    1 CDs of 80m mode-1, 700 MB

    Video Size: 640 x 272
    Autosize: 4:3
    Framerate: NTSC (29.97)

    Audio:

    123 kbit/s
    44100 Hz
    Stereo
    CBR

    Audio track: 0
    Audio gain: +0

    Options:

    High quality

    Scaling method: bilinear
    ME function: SAD
    Keyframe interval: 240

    ---

    Video:

    MPEG4 [.AVI] (ffmpeg)
    2000 kbits/s
    22 min keep in
    1 CDs of DVD 4GB, 4000 GB

    Video Size: 640 x 272
    Autosize: 4:3
    Framerate: NTSC (29.97)

    Audio:

    123 kbit/s
    48000 Hz
    Stereo
    CBR

    Audio track: 0
    Audio gain: +0

    Options:

    High quality
    Two-pass encoding

    Scaling method: fast bilinear
    ME function: SAD
    Keyframe interval: 240

Yet, I end up with the same result. Is something off? Nothing else, besides the fast video and resulting out-of-sync a/v is off. Although, several times, I ended up with an output file with its audio in French when the VOB file was in English... I don't know why that would be.

    Thank-you!

    Video: MPEG2 Muxed
    Audio: AC-3 2/0
Original file size: 1, 024 MB
    Time: 21 min, 18 sec.

It's from a North American DVD so it is NTSC, with a screen ratio of 4:3, and I believe the frame rate is 29.97 but I haven't a clue with the audio. I do not know how to find this out for sure. The information does not appear above the 'Open' option when I select the VOB file (which, when I play it, is in sync if that helps any )

  4. Try to encode with framerate = NTSC FILM (as almost all DVD are encoded with this framerate).

Unfortunately, the same thing happened; the video is still faster than the audio and oddly enough, the audio came out in French as opposed to English which is the language of the audio in the VOB file. Any thoughts?

  6. If you have a mean of sending me a link to download your file, I'll make tests on it.

As the file is 1, 024 MB, I unfortunately have no way of storing the file on my web server. However, perhaps I could slice the VOB file into a smaller segment? I am unsure of how to do that since I know of no VOB editors or slicers.

  8. If you have a fast connection you can just share it on your Shared folders and it will be downloadable over the internet.
