I'm capturing some VHS video using a VIVO card (Gefore 4). This happens with serveral programs like virtualVCR, virtualdub, videowave, Ulead video studio. Do you know why? I tried a couple of times, cleaned the VRC (with a cleaner cassete) and I was able to capture the video fine.

I can see the video that is being captured and I see no white bar in the middle of the video, but the captured video shows it.

I have a Geforce4 Ti4200, and I had the same problems...I believe it is Macrovision protection. I was able to overcome this by downloading nVidia WDM 1.08 drivers for capturing. All the WDM drivers after this would not allow tape captures except non-protected ones. For whatever reason though I could only get WDM 1.08 to work properly on Windows XP.

    Laterz,
    Mike

Commercial tapes do, and even degraded non-commercial ones can send out false signals to trick a computer. In each case, look at getting a TBC.

Well, in any case I did fix the problem with nVidia WDM 1.08 drivers, as a matter of fact someone had a post on this site on this same subject. A Time Base Corrector as LordSmurf said would work but trying the drivers first would be cheaper.

This post covers it a bit.

Well, I'm trying to backup some videos for my daugther, the are of Madeline, they are old!, so i don't think it's a protection issue. I'm going to try other drivers, I got the latest ones from Nvidia, so I'll try the 1.08.

    Thanks
