    Hello Everyone,

Its been over a few years since I posted. But I use this website ALL THE TIME!! IT KICKS MAJOR ASS!! I am posting this question after searching the forum.

This is my first attempt to backup a DVD.

I recently just bought a Digital Research DDVDRW3D Dual DVD+-R/RW.
    I have a XP1800, 512mg DDR, XP OS. I have a stand alone Apex AD-703 & a Sony DVP-DS415.

    I created 3 backups.
    1. Marilyn Manson - Guns God and Government - DUAL LAYER on a DVD-R
    2. Marilyn Manson - Guns God and Government - DUAL LAYER on a DVD+R
    3. Hot Chick - Single Layer on a DVD-R
Using the DVDDycrpter, to DVDFab, then InstantCopy Hidden Settings method. http://www.gizmobob.com/dvd9-dvd5.htm

All the menus have been cut out, the backup's are the movie and movie only.

Now the part I am stuck at (PLAYING THE DVD-+R)

I play each DVD back up in my APEX AD-703.
    1. The M.M. DVD-R played fine until the 3rd chapter, then started skipping and blocking... would never recover and play normally.

    2. The M.M. DVD+R played fine until the 4th chapter, then started skipping and blocking... would recover but only for a seconds, then would continue with skipping and blocking, so in other words never really recovered.

    3. Hot Chick DVD-R played fine almost all the way through, started to skip and get blocking around the last few chapters. Then would really never recover.

NOW I AM PLAYING EACH DISK ON MY SONY DVDP-NS415

    1. The M.M. DVD-R played fine all the way through. NO PROBLEMS
    2. The M.M. DVD+R played fine all the way through. NO PROBLEMS
    3. Hot Chick DVD-R played fine all the way through. NO PROBLEMS

So I know its not the media, or could it be the media?
Is it my Apex? My Apex is old, about 2-3yrs.
The Sony is new, but the problem is ITS NOT MINE!
Could my Apex be dirty? other post I have read about this problem they say to clean the lense and get new media.. my only question before I take apart my DVD player and get new media is, why would each movie (2 the same) play fine for the first part few chapters, then start to skip and block on different areas of the movie?

Well Im going to stop blabbing.

I hope I provided enough information to get assistance
    PLEASE HELP!

That might be a little too much info!

Seriously, I can't read through it all. But maybe while some others do ..

have a look at the brown section on the left. Look up your Player and Media and see what combos work best. Look at brands as well as + or -.

You can get bad discs within otherwise good batches. Some may have been written closer to the end (max) than others, and they have problems.

It might just be MM. He can't be copied ;c) Not without a fight anyway.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

  3. Hi idrci777.

My guess would be that your Apex needs either a good cleaning, or a media with better reflectivity.
If you're using cheapo media, try a better one and see if that cures the problem (Verbatim, TDK, ritek-dye based,...).
If it doesn't, then try cleaning your Apex lens.
If the problem is still present, you might have to think about getting another DVD player.

    1. Apex is a dodgy manufacturer. Some Apex players are magical and read everything. Some read nothing.

    2. BAD MEDIA! (Sing with me!) BAAAAAD MEDIA! BAD MEDIA!

  7. I have an Apex 3201 and a Jvc progressive scan. I noticed that if the Apex if left on for a while, it heats up and starts skipping with macroblocks. Everything plays fine on the JVC and Pioneer(s) A05/A04. This started to happen to me after the unit was about a year old.

I originally thought it was either my burner or bad media....but I've used Vertabim or Ritek G03's and have not had any problems for the past year. I ended up retiring my Apex., especially when the buttons started to fall off!
