I've a mpg file, when I play it with windows media player it it's 1 minute long but it continues playing 5 minutes in total, but that's not the problem, I want to convert it to vcd compliant with tmpgenc but it converts only the first minute. I've tried to demultiplex, didn't work (just the first minute).
    Virtualdub cannot open it.

    Any help?

    Thanks

Do a search - top right corner of this page. I recall someone recommended a prog to fix that, but, I can't recall what it was.

It was just yesterday, I believe. :c)

I would try opening and playing in VirtualDub MPEG.

If that works and is in sync , you can make it feed uncompressed
video to TMPGenc with the frameserver .

If it is an MPEG-1 file, any Virtual Dub should open it. If it is MPEG-2, try Virtual Dub mod. Click on the links in this post for the one you want. I suggest you get mod version, as it will open both, and you will not have to come back to get it.

I've tried both, Virtualdub MPEG Virtualdub Mod, they open and play the file, but again just the first minute, and when I save it as compressed avi, saves just the first minute, but when I try to use Direct stream copy it gives the message: "The source video stream uses a compression algorithm which is not compatible with AVI files. Direct stream copy cannot be used with this video stream."

One more thing, when I open the file, in the window named "MPEG Import Filter" (parsing interleaved MPEG-1 file) there's a counter that reaches only to 7000k of 40448K. That means that only part of the file is recognized?

    Thanks

Make a note of where the video stops loading (the frame). Then you can use TMPGEnc's Source Range function to get the rest of the video. Or if you are not afraid to learn something new, try AviSynth. Its Trim function can skip over the corrupted part of your video and let load it into Virtual Dud, or TMPGEnc.

  10. Ok...I ran into an MPEG 1 file with the same problem as Rupha. I have been playing around with it and am beginning to think I may have to take F00's advice.

I have fixed broken .avi's and .mpg's in the past but this one is strange in that any program I load it into (Vdub,TMPGenc,Vcdcutter,Vcdeasy,vcdgear,mpegcorrector,etc...) it will only read up to 8:24 before it hits some kinda error and then will not read any further in any of the programs, cannot demultiplex, cannot analyze, nothing past 8:24. The thing I dont understand is it plays in any software media player fine past 8:24 with only a slight stutter in the video and 2 tonal beeps 20 seconds after. Other than that it is fine. Also, if I select any point beyond the 8:24 point to edit (ie.. 9:00 to the last frame) it reads it as 0:00 minutes and cant even processes it.

So....if I play it, it plays fine...if I try to edit it in any way, I am stuck at an 8:24 barrier.......F00, thanks for the advice :P

  11. this is just a stab in the dark... but if WMP can play these problem files, have you tried opening them in TMPGEnc with the DirectShow filter put up to the highest priority?

Seems like you've tried most other things!

    cheers,

No, I will up the priority and try it as soon as I get home. Also, I found out that the 2 tonal beeps were actually part of the movie not an error...which leaves the video stutter at 8:24 the only tell tale sign of an error.

...will report back....thanks for the suggestion.
