  1. Good day. Just tried to open a dv avi file in virtual dub so as to convert it to MJPEG AVI. But it seems virtual dub cannot open such file. What codec do I have install or what settings do I have to configure to open said dvavi file ?

    tnx

Try installing a DV codec (which you correctly hint at).
I had to do the same in order to process DV stuff captured with Canopus ADVC-100 in VirtualDub.

The codec I used was the Adaptec DV codec which I managed to find after some searching in a codec pack called "ACE Mega Codec Pack Pro"

Seems to be here as well (though haven't tried it):

use the mainconcept codec if you have to recompress (better quality) or the free panasonic codec also will work (in the tools section)

And make sure you have a type 2 DV-avi. Virtualdub can't open type 1. DVIO lets you select if you want a type 1 or type 2 dv-avi
