  1. I am new in DVD authoring. I tried different software and chose dvdlab.
All features are great, but when I created project, it was very poor quality: video and audio out of sync, video flushed, motion meny freezes for a some time before start new loop.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on and how I can improve the performance?

With ulead movie factory I created good quality project, but I don't like that minimum flexibility in creating menus.

hard to say, without knowing what types of media you used and how you went about authoring.

all I can say at this point is that I have had no problems with sync in DVD Lab, and the video quality of the output is identical to the input video.

the only menu problems I've had stem from mixing my audio formats, using a wav in the menu and mp2 in the movie - mixing audio formats on the disc causes problems with the authored material.

  3. I used m2v and wav files (after TMPGEnc). Computer is Pentium 4, 512 Mb RAM, 2000 Gz, Windows XP Pro. I compiled DVD first time and was not satisfied with the quality of the video and motion menus (I played it in Power DVD). When I recompiled it, the audio went out of sync. I don't know any factors that differs in these 2 attempts.

do you like the quality of your m2v files? is there a problem with them only after you author them with DVD Lab, or are there quality issues with the conversion from your original file to m2v? what was your original video, by the way?

  5. Yes, I like the quality of m2v files. I converted it from avi divx. Quality is bearable.

It seems that problem is with my system. I upgraded from power dvd 4 to 5. Now even my dvds plays choppy and without sound. Meanwhile, system has sound. I'll try to reinstal ac3 codec, but what to do with choppy movements?

I'm currently doing research into this. It started with
using Shrink to grab portions of multiple DVDs and author them
with DVD lab by importing VOBs .
The first thing that happens is DVD lab bitches about start timestamps not 0.
The bad thing is if you try to add chapters it gets completely lost.
Apparently each VOB Unit or chapter starts over at 0 time.

I have demuxed the VOBs with different programs and they do different
things to the time. I am also cursed with having a mixed NTSC/FILM source.

Restream is not smart enough to know about pulldown flags when it is
told to fix the timestamps. Pulldown will fix the time, but either clears
or sets the pulldown flags instead of just leaving them alone.

    What's a mother to do ?

So i am now writing my own stream fixer. If the drop fame thing
didn't confuse me I'd be done. BTW i'd fire the guy that wrote pulldown.

  7. I've had really no problems at all with DVD-lab and consider it to be one of the best personal authoring tools on the market.

The issues that you state you are having could be from a host of things. The original source may not be what you are expecting, there might have been an issue with the encoding, and the list just goes on and on.

There is a serious problem with adding chapters in
    DVD Lab
It's documented on the DVDlab forum.

Thank you for the insighful and useless analysis. The original source is a commercial DVD that works, and just in case I was expecting incorrectly I analysed it completely. One of the problems is that is Mixed NTSC/FILM
the other problem is that it had non contiguoius timestamps.

DVD labs output when examined with IFoEdit produced a stream of
valid units followed by an outrageously large unit followed by numerous zero length units.

    IT'S BROKEN
