Hi there.
I recently used some guides available online to rip shrink and burn the DVD, True Lies, to DVD+R with DVDShrink and Nero 6 Ultra.
Oddly, my Playstation 2 reads the DVD+R but my Panasonic RV-31 won't! I checked a few online lists and they say the RV-31 is DVD+R compatible.
What happens is that when it's supposed to read the disc it tries several times then just eventually stops.
I ripped the extras, menus, and foreign languages, kept the subtitles, shrunk a few sections of the movie. I then created VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS in Nero , dragged and dropped all the files into VIDEO_TS (leaving AUDIO_TS empty) and burned the disc. Upon looking back at the True Lies disc I made 2 possible errors.
The original disc only had VIDEO_TS and not AUDIO_TS, and the volume name was TRUELIES, not TRUE_LIES as I had named it.
Can anybody tell me what I'm going wrong and why my RV-31 won't play my discs? (My RV-31 uses component cables and optical DTS audio so I'd much rather use that)
Thanks in advance!
(PS - My specs are in my profile)

I use nero 5. and I use the wizard. the firs thing it asks is what kind of disc you are trying to make. I pick DVD then hit next. then it asks something like what type of disc you are making. there 3 choices, DATA, OTHER, and something else. I pick OTHER then hit next. then it asks something else(sorry im not home to see the options). I pick DVD VIDEO then hit next. then 2 windows come up. On the left is the VIDEO TS and AUDIO TS folders. and on the right is all the folders on your PC.
I put all the files that DVDSHRINK made in the VIDEO_TS folder. then I hit the BURN button. I have never had a problem with this method. the discs play in my PS2, XBOX, all 3 of my dvd players. all of my friends DVD players, etc. I have not had a player that never played a disc I have made(KNOCKS ON WOOD!) and I also use DVD+R. and I have a NEC 1100a drive that is packaged as MICRO SOLUTIONS BACKPACK external drive usb 2.0. so here is the rundown:
1. use the wizard
2. pick DVD
3. pick OTHER
4. Pick DVD VIDEO.
5. Drag all files into the VIDEO_TS folder.
6. hit BURN.
7. Enjoy movie.
well if you cant get it to work with your panasonic, they make component cables for the PS2. then just take the optical cable from the panasonic and put it on the back of your PS2. then make sure you go into the PS2 settings to make sure that the OPTICAL OUT is turned on. the PS2 outputs 5.1 and DTS also. -

Hey there,
Thanks for the info, I'll have to try it out.
1 question: What type of media are you using? I'm using TDK 4x DVD+R and burning at 4x speed.
Thanks. -
You can look at what media works best for other PS2 users in the DVD Player section: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=445&Search=Search&#comments
113 comments plus lists of reports on various brands/types. :c)
And then you could look up your other player to find what works best on both. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

I know the PS2 has component and optical audio available for it, I just happen to not like it as a DVD Player, it has the annoying fan, and I'd have to buy the remote for it. Good suggestion though
Thanks for those lists... using them I did find a tempoarary workaround for True Lies in the Panasonic RV-31 page. Seems that if I repeatedly tap the Menu, Play, and FF keys on the DVD remote right after I put the disc in, it eventually loads and plays just fine! I ripped the menus so I don't understand why it would work. Why is that?
Unfortunately, I haven't found the culprit as some people say +R doesn't work, while it does for others. Some people found Nero to work just fine, while others didn't! Anybody have any suggestions as to what I can try to get it working without fuss?
Also, I used the Nero DVD-Video Wizard as suggested and it still required the workaround I listed above.
(PS - I read the rules, and I didn't bump my own topic, that was somebody else -

I know PS2 works with the pad, thats how we watch movies at my gf's house but its cumbersome and defeats the purpose of having a standalone player with remote. If I buy the component cable and remote for PS2, I'd have to buy extension cables for my controllers. Total cost is around $60, and if that's the case I'd rather buy a new DVD Player. The PS2, for me, not a good route to go. Once again, thanks for the suggestions though
Unfortunately I don't have -R capability, only +R/RW. My parents, also have an RV-31, so I'd really like to get the discs working without fuss
I checked the lists and it seems that it works randomly. Any suggestions? -

Are you sure you're using the right settings in Nero?

I have a Panasonic RV-31. I have a Sony dual format burner. I have burned +R, +RW, and -R on Fuji, TDK, and Sony media. The result is the same for all, sometimes it will work fine and others it rejects the disc. It may play the disc fine 5 times in a row, and then I have to remove/insert it 3 times before it works the next time. It does seem to work more often if I burn at 1x speed. My son's Playstation 2 has never failed to play any of my discs.
