Trying to capture from an ordinary video recorder which has scart in and out. I tried using a scart plug which has composite and s video connectors to a mpeg 2 card using the svideo but software complains no vertical signal detected. Does this mean my vhs player is not capable of transmiting the signal via a s video convertor or do I need to buy something ore elaborate?

It may be a bad cable. See if you can check the S-video signal to another device.
    Hello.

  3. Don't forget to set your mpeg-2 card software to accept incoming
video from it's S-Video port. Most s/ware defaults to the composite
port only and this may be why you are getting no signal.

Cable is fine and software set to svideo. What I am trying to do is capture an ordinary tape not produced on an s-vhs recorder, but use this adaptor plug to connect to my card using the s-video in. No vertical signal is the message with s-video, but the composite is fine. Is it the actual tape which causes the problem, or should I be able to pass any sort of source material through this adaptor?

Seems the adaptor ay be at fault. If I use it to connect my camcorder to TV it gives out black and white.
