  1. Hi All,

I have now set up my dedicated video machine (XP Pro)

I will be ripping, encoding, transcoding and burning. I know there has been a few discussions regarding loading or not loading codecs. My question is, should I load codecs or not. I do not intend playing the files on this new machine but wondered if any of the software requires them to be able to do it's job. I will be using:

    DVDDecrypter
    VCDEasy
    InstantCopy
    DVD2AVI
    VitualDub
    DIVFix
    IfoEdit
    TMPGEnc
    Instant Hidden Settings

And some light use of Ulead DVD Workshop.

Many thanks in advance for any help given.

    Thanks

  2. If you want to re-encode any file from its original format to another (e.g divx to mpeg-2) then you need to be able to decode it to the same extent that a player application would. i.e, you need the right codec.

My advice w.r.t codecs is to only install a new one if you find a need for it. Do not install codec packs, get the original codec and install just that.
