I bought a 10pk of Maxell dvd-r at walmart since i needed some right now. I heard Maxell was junk and had other brand media codes. Here is the info from dvddecrypter i got off these discs:

Retail 2x and 4x Maxell disc are awsome, not bad at all.
Its the fake bulk/OEM Maxells sold online that suck, but thats not Maxells fault. -
I would place those Maxells (sold in ten-packs with "made in Japan" on the box) in Walmart second in quality only to Fujifilm discs. I have never had a problem with those discs and they are my first alternative if Fujifilm is not available.
Make your own determination(s) and investigate for yourself. -
I burned Italian Job and Matrix Reloaded. Both played fine. The only media i had problems with was Memorex and havent bought any since. Riteks is what i usually get.
