To begin, I'm slightly a newbie at this whole captuing thing, so if I don't know the right term for something, forgive me...

I have a KWorld-878 video capture card - you know, the cheap $40 one you can get through compgeeks. Unfortunately I've had nothing but trouble trying to get the darn thing to work, my objective being to hook it to my VCR and "rip" old VHS footage to DVD format (by the way if there's a better and slightly affordable card for this job, let me know...).

The card has several inputs: S-video, composite video, and cable (TV). It also has inputs for antenna and remote, but I'm not worried about those.

Here are the various setups I've tried:

-RCA cable from VHS to "composite video" input of capture card; provided cable from audio out slot on capture card to line in of sound card.
Result: Video with no sound. Video quality OK.

-RCA cable from VHS to composite video input of capture card; RCA cable to line in of sound card.
Result: Video with no sound. Video quality OK.

-RCA cable from VHS to signal converter thingy; S-video cable from signal converter thingy to S-video input of capture card.
Result: Absolutely nothing.

-TV cable (coaxial) from back of VCR to cable input on capture card; provided cable from audio out on capture card to line in of sound card.
Result: Black & White video (??) with mumbled, fuzzy, hissing sound. Video quality OK, except for the B&W part...

Any suggestions? I am kind of a newbie at this, but basically I'm just looking to get decent sound & audio, preferrably through some sort of RCA connection, as that seemed to provide the best video thus far (but if you know of a way to get the coaxial cable to work right, that would be cool too...) Any other owners of KWorld cards have any battle stories/wisdom to share?

Many thanks.
