I can think of two things that may affect playback on a PS2, the type of media you are burning to and the version of PS2 that you have. From what I understand the first version of PS2 does not play any burnt DVD's

I use Verbatim DVD-R and have no problems with playback. Just insert disc, sit back and enjoy. You dont even need any controler hooked up. You can purchase a 15 pack from BestBuy for about $40 but I think they just went down to $30, a little high but well worth it.

  5. Got a mod chip? Sony says only those ps2s with a mod chip can play dvd-r, but maybe dvd+r would play without a chip. dvd-r play on my ps2 but it has a mod chip.

That is not true, you only need a mod-chip if you want to play burnt games not movies 8)

  9. I have a PSX2 v6 and it plays UDF 1.02 or UDF 1.05 discs. But I saw a v4 that really only played UDF 1.05 discs (yeah makes no sense to me either).

I wouldn't burn with nero either (in my hands even the newest verison is hit or miss, esp on the PSX2). Maybe try DVD Decrypter.

I use Princo media, which is pretty inexpensive (I wouldn't say cheap ) but when it comes to play DVDR on the PSX2 or XBox it's really hit and miss. You might want to spend an extra $40-50 and get a nice standalone player from Mintek or Apex.

  10. I agree with Vejita-sama, use different burning software...I use Record Now Max and it works good...I had problems with Nero also.

  12. I have a first run Japanese and American PS2, and both play DVD+R on any media I burn to, so I'm not convinced that first run machines are necessarily the issue.

something to check, as sometimes this little thing trips up ps2 playback of DVD movies. When you put your burnt DVD-R in your PC DVD player, check to see if the VIDEO_TS folder is in capital letters. If not, the PS2 won't play it.

Also, is the movie the same region code as your PS2?

Thanks for posting that because I thought gen. 1 PS2's could not play any burnt DVD's.

  16. I'm also having problems getting burnt DVD-Rs to play on my playstation 2. I burnt a film with Ulead Movie Factory 2 and when I put the disk in my playstation, it wouldn't play. I have a Pioneer 105 and am using Bulkpaq orange disks. I also tried burn the movie to verbatim DVD-RW and the same thing happened. Please can anyone let me know where I'm going wrong? Also how do you tell which version of the Playstation 2?

    Many Thanks

  17. AS far as I have tested, PS2's will not play DVD-RW's . I have had great luck with Verbatims, Pioneer, Apple and TDK media. The trick for me was to record at 1X . All my DVD's play flawlessly when recorded at 1X . My PS2 has problems recognizing the DVD-R's when recorded at anything higher than 1X .

I use primoDVD, and RecordNowDX burn software.

    I burn with the A05 , and the A04

  18. actually some PS2 can read DVD-RW's. My ps2 v5 has no problems with a maxell DVD-RW that came with my burner. I use it to test images before I burn onto a dvd-r.

I've found that my ps2 is picky about dvd-r's burnt at 2x. Its hit or miss, but some games when burnt at 2x don't play well (in game video skip, or sometime just won't load). I just play it safe and burn at 1x...

I got my Playstation2 within the first week they came out in the US.
Mine plays both DVD-r and +r, so far I used only cheapo Optimum DVDs in it with no problems.
