  1. bottle-necked: I've had V7.1, 7.5, 7.6,7.7, and 8.6 MMCs. The first 3 versions are not very good. The 7.7 is fine and the 8.6 is ok too. You can upgrade straight to the newest 8.6 version but I've read about some problems using that version with the 128 card. I would then try 7.7. You can probably find all the older versions of MMC at the ATI site.

First, let me open by stating that I am a “newbie” and have never participated in utilizing a forum, but hopefully, I can get some response from a number of you that own a All In Wonder ATI RADEON 8500DV 64MB Card. I have very much enjoyed viewing television on the monitor, using the TV on demand features, the ease of recording, the TV Guide, the remote-control, etc. Now I am attempting to learn the in and outs of video editing and that’s what brought me to this excellent source of information. DVDRhelp.com web site is a wealth of information, but a little overwhelming to the newcomer. I’ve attempted to capture both video , and VHS and cut the commercials out, but still haven’t learned what format to use in order to then burn it on a DVDRW.

I don’t know if any member can look at my [Mr. Nerd] profile or my computer details, I know I’m able to look at it, I was wondering if others could also? In surfing the site I found a reference made by a member “bottle-necked” to the question I wanted ask concerning the MMC 7.7 (Multi Media Center). Whenever I attempt to click on any of the help icons --- the help files do not appear, although they are on my hard drive they just will not come up within the program. Fortunately I have found much helpful information and copied and pasted and printed, but ATI program didn’t help much.

Now to my question: I was wondering if anyone else , who uses the 8500DV 64MB has had this same problem? I was led to believe that the MMC 8.1 was compatible with my card , whereas some of the others were not --- so I ordered the MMC 8.1 CD Rom disk from Canada. I notice that that particular model was not mentioned in the above comments. Also --- it is my understanding that DirectX 9.0b must be installed prior to installing MMC 8.1, and that the MMC 7.7 should be uninstalled prior to the new installation.

I hope that someone can assist me.

    Thanks,

    Mr. Nerd

  2. I expect that you didn't not mean to make your whole post a quote

All the MMCs work with the 8500DV (they've all worked for me).

Yes, you do need directx 9.0 installed prior to using it, it does not have to be installed, but it's is better to have it. You also need the WM9 codecs installed if you wish to capture in WM9 format .

As for the uninstallation of 7.7, I don't think I even bothered uninstalling that prior, but I guess t will be better. Also, uninstall all old drivers (display driver, wdm driver and control panel) and download the new single driver file from the ATI website, also download MMC 8.6.

(BTW: just in case you capture from the composite in on the card and don't already know this, don't use the loop through audio, just plug the connectors straight into the sound card. If you use the loop through, you get wavering audio, and I'm sure that it isn't just an issue with my card.)
