  1. Hi,

I just puchased a Phillips DVDDR 72 recoder. I am looking to put my VHS-C movies onto DVD. My questions are as follows:

    1) Is there a preference for which input I use for the recording. I can record off of my camcorder directly or put the VHS-C in the adapter and use a standard 4 head VHS player as my input.

    2) The DVDDR 72 gives me 4 speeds, 1x (1 hour) , 2.5x(2.5 hours), 4x(hours), and 6x(hours). While the instruction manual says that 1x gives the best quality, will it matter what speed I use since I am using an analog VHS-C as my input?

    thanks

  2. 1) Shouldn't make any difference.

    2) 1 hr mode is probably overkill for vhs. 2hr mode when going from vhs to my Philips985 looks as good as the original. Depending on the source, even the 3 hour mode is ok for some stuff. You should try recording in various quality settings and see for yourself.

Is it correct that you only have 2.5/4 hr modes? No 2 hr or 3 hr?

  3. That is correct. Only 1x, 2.5x, 4x, and 6x.

I ran some test. It seems the quality on 1x is much better than 2.5x. Does that make sense given the VHS input.
