Nero Hangs

I'm in trouble, I am trying to take a vcd mpeg1 and burn it to disc with Nero 6 ultra but as soon as I try to view what it will look like or burn or pretty much do anything besides move from step to step, then it hangs. I am using Nero Vision Express. Let me run it down for you

*double click start smart
*select DVD
*make DVD video
*add video file
*edit video........Hangs ctrl alt del ..... cpu usage 100%

if i don't edit and just continue then i can make it to the burn part and it will start transcoding. But as soon as the menu finishes and it gets to the begining of the actual video transcoding then it hangs again.

Please help

i have also tried to use vcd and svcd formats on nero.
