Could someone give this newbie a step by step guide on how to directly print onto blank DVDs and CDs. Please include printer recommendation, any software needed, website where I can download the DVD/CD artwork, etc. I need everything and would really like to try this, thank you for your help and patience in your reply.

Epson 900 or 950. Software is included.
Do a search for these two printers on the forums and you will find out more than you need to know to get started.

Any good with a few simple tools? Very simple!
Look at the lexmark and epson printer guides! I just built the Lexmark disk printer mod, It works well! $35 for the printer and few hours fun.
Buy some printable disks, make graphic, print! Nearly that easy.
If you buy a printer, then make graphic and print! It is that easy!
As for art work, you might be able to download some, but if your printing DVD backups, scan the disk and print it. If your doing VHS captures to DVD, scan the tape jackets, or grab a still or two from the movie and make your own.
Sometimes I'd like to use the real graphics on my conversions, but mostly I like to make my own. That was for CD labels, I will probably feel the same about DVDs too.
