  1. Ok i have been trying hard to convert my old vcd/svcds onto dvd's and it works and plays fine in my dvd player but i cant get it to play on my friends playstation.
Heres what i did. I used isobuster to rip the m2f2 frames, then i take those mpegs and i put em in a dvd authoring program to make menus, and change the sound from 44.1khz to 48khz when i put em in my dvd player that can also play svcds/vcds they play fine, but when i put em in the playstation they dont work. I can see the main menu, i can see the animated thumbnails playing with full sound and everything but when i go to play all i hear is the sound of the movie playing but it stays frozen on the main menu.

Now I used tmpgenc DVD Author and all the movies dont play on the playstation. My friend told me to try ulead dvd workshop cuz he says it works on his ps2. So i do it in dvd workshop and i choose 320x240 cuz thats what size the vcds are encoded at already. it takes like an hour and a half to do whatever it was doing...re-encoding the video or something. So now it plays on the ps2, but it looks horrible and theres large blocks all over the place. But on the regular dvd polayer it plays nice and clear. Why the discrepancy? I talked to my friend about it and he says i should choose the highest bitrate next time.

Now why should i have to re-encode it to a higher bitrate when its already at a resolution supported by dvd format?

Can anyone walk me through some step by step instructions for making vcd/svcd video work on a ps2. Cuz ive seen dvds played in a ps2 where the video source was from a vcd and they did it in tmpgenc dvd author. i can tell cuz its using the same menus. I am really having a hard time with this and i cannot understand what i am doing wrong.

  2. It should work automatically. You don't need to do anything extra. His ps2 might be too old or something.

  3. OK i tried it again last night.
I rip the mpg from the vcd using isobusted m2f2 filter.
Then i use DVD Patcher to patch the video files and i selected entire file.
after thats done i load it into TMPGEnc DVD Author and make my menus, and chapters and all that. And i set it to resample the sound to 48khz.
I burn it on dvd using nero in UDF mode and xbox compatibility.

It plays in my dvd player, but not on my ps2. does anyone know why?
i can see all the menus and the video plays in the background but when i click play it stays on the menu and plays the movie sounds.

Can anyone help me i thought i was doing it right. am doing something wrong?

i have vcd mpegs 352x240 and some have stereo sound and dont need converting and the ones that do need convering i do with dvdauthor during the authoring to dvd folder phase.

Please if anyone can help me in any way i would be most appreciative.

    its a v5 ps2 and im using a NEC-ND 1300a with the latest firmware, and memorex 4x dvd-r at 4.7gb

There's no such thing. Only guides for VCD, SVCD, DVD. All the same rules apply.

PS2s can be picky about media. I author in DVDWorkshop and they work fine in PS2. Try another high quality disc. Always try on a RW first.

Read comments about PS2 in the PLayers section on the left. See what brands/types of discs people find work best for them.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1
The Rogue Pixel: Pixels are like elephants. Every once in a while one of them will go nuts.

  5. PSX2 vary by model number for their ability to play DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and/or DVD+RW. How you author and burn also makes a difference. While my PSX2 (rev6) can play UDF 1.02 or UDF 1.05, most can only play UDF 1.02. Which means if you burn with some older verisons of Nero you're out of luck.

Best bet is to use IMGTools + DVD Decrytper to burn. But again, media makes a differences too.

  6. ok so i make another dvd right, and i use the guide from doom9 where you rip the mpgs with vcdeasy but i used isobuster instead, then i demultiplex with tmpgenc, and then use besweet to convert the audio to 48khz where needed. i make the menus and everything like usual with tmpgenc Dvd author, but i forgot to uncheck the playfirst track only option from when i wanted to play a track before the main menu....and it played.
It played the first track but then when i get back to the main menu it wont play the movie anymore it just stays stuck on the menu and i hear the movie sound playing . So now i know the problem is the menus...but what could it be about the menus? you think its the previews? maybe i should use some kind of text only menus? I still dont get it cuz ive seen other dvds made in dvd author with motion menu's AND the background is an mpeg looped. I dont get what is wrong. i hopoe i figure it out soon. this is so annoying.

Can i decompile the other dvd and find out how it was authored so i can figure out what is wrong with my dvd?
