I know we've had polls about anime, but what do you watch. And why do you like it. An open discussion:

Neon Genesis - Got hooked on this after reading several of the books.

Bubblegum Crisis 2040 - Off chance purchase, just liked it.

Lain - I really liked the story in this series. One of the best I have.

Cowboy Bebop - quirky funny, and good dialog.

NOIR- a series that is still being released on disk. Interesting story line..

Jin Rohn - Again, good story. Odd ending too.

    Akira - an odd classic!

Most of these are an ADV release.

There are a few others, but just to get things started. And this way I might find something that I overlooked.

    What I don't like:

Many of the releases on the Manga label. I don't know why, but they seem to get the lower quality stuff. The stuff no one else wants to sell.

Favorite? Eva, Star Blazers (childhood memories and all), Cowboy Bebop.

Edit: yeah add Lain in there, Lain was cool.

Lain was kind of twisted cool. I guess that's why I liked it.

Glad to see that the movie sequel does not go along the same lines as the book sequel. 3 issues into the second book, and I could not go any farther.

Come on. Ghibli. They're all cookie cutter when it comes down to it, but you still gotta regard. Mononoke, SA, Laputa, Nausicaa, Totoro...

(that said, i finally got tricked into watching Dune* this weekend, and my faith in most bits of Nausicaa's originality have been badly shaken. Giant desert-creatures? Check. Reluctant messiah-figure that turns out to not be quite what they seem? Check. Odd retro-modern post apocalyptic setting with flying machines as the only technology and other materials replacing metal? Check.... just when it all seemed so fresh)

Akira. I mean. The bikes. The blobby mutant stuff. The large amount of on-one 24fps motion. The surprisingly seamless (but heinously major) truncation. Rock and roll.

As for the rest, its mainly series, havent seen a good anifilm in a long time (what was that one with all the realities that got mixed up, and people started digging robots out of the ground, and it was all fixed with some kind of time bomb? that was cool). Trigun, Bebop, etc. Slayers...... feh. Got dull, fast. Eva i've seen about 4-5 eps of, gripping, but didnt get to see any more
There's so many i'd like to see, but too many things, too little time

And I absolutely, positively will not sway from cities of gold, ulysses, and transformers
    (of course Bugs counts!)

(* well... sort of. the new 3-part Xena-flavoured made-for-TV version which strangely seems to have stolen a lot of the original sets and props. according to me dad anyhoo)

Armitage was OK. Have you seen the sequel? I've been kind of avoiding it, not sure if it will be good or not.

I just bought the next disk for Noir. Disk 5 has some serious plot twists. really getting good.

Also bought the complete Boogiepop Phantom set. Man this story is F'in Weird? You thought Lain was odd. No comparison. Seriously whacked. I'm going to have to actually pay attention to the whole thing. I'm on disk 3 of 4, and it is Warped!

  15. Neon Genesis Evangelion was excellent... kind of addictive. The last two episodes were mind-numbingly confusing, but makes a kooky kind of sense when you watch the "movies" (i.e., alternate last two episodes).

Princess Mononoke was pretty good. First anime I actually watched in cinema. [rant]And the evil evil DVD zoning system is the reason it still hasn't been released in Australia as R4 PAL [/rant]

I really quite liked Metropolis as well.

I just got the entire set of Final Fantasy: Unlimited episodes sent in from Hong Kong on DVD -- I've seen about half of them... Highly recommended if you are a FF fan!

    Regards.

  16. mmmm.... I love the Hellsing.
I really love the Hellsing alot-he's one cool Mo-Fo.

I also dig Spriggan, Ninja Scroll, Bastard, Beserk, Eat-man, CyberCity Oedo, Princess Mononoke (yes, I AM a girl), Vamp-D of course, Devilman/Lady, and I'm still learning. Alot I haven't seen yet.

I kind like the ones where they're more like grown ups and less like oogley eyed kids running around in short skirts, not that there's anything wrong with that.....

Anyone remember the family guy episode where chris builds one of those downhill racing cars? In it, they have a speed racer parody...VERY FUNNY.

Oh No, ha ha. They will win for sure, Ha Ha.

Speed, you must focus on the race, Ha ha.

You would probably like the same stuff I watch. I'm not much for things like Dragon Ball Z and the others like that. Cheap garbage in my book.

Check out the Dog Warriors box set too, it was pretty good.

CowBoy Bebop! It has just started the repeat on cartoon channel. only 3 episodes in. Airs at 01:30 am Eastern time in the USA, Sunday through Thursday. Gotta get the Bungholio working and start grabbing the rest of those.

Thats the one....best show ever made. I wonder why they canceled it in the first place?

Later on they say something like:

This does not effect us in any way, ha ha

Just watche a little sample of one of the TV episodes, animation was pretty good, color was fantastic. Only problem was the dialog was all Japanese, so I had to read the subtitles.

Most of the stuff the is suitable for children is garbage. I guess that theory would lead one to believe that all comic books are for children too.

Yeah. I just finished taking a class in the development of comics. Any of you ever read Underground Comix? I recommend looking at work by Robert Crumb and S. Clay Wilson. Definitely not for children.

I just realized I sorta contradicted myself:

But Family Guy is in a world all of it's own.

I'm still pissed I missed the episode #18 of BIG O.
    Still looking for it.

Family Guy is pretty tame compared to a lot of anime out there.
