  1. Hi ppl,

My 1st post so b gentle.. as the subject states I have a mpeg 2 (DVD) file which I created using Mainconcept from a XVID, so that I could burn it 2 DVD. The problem is that the file size is 5200mb. This took me a while 2 do, n I was wondering if there was a qik way to change the birates 2 reduce the size.

    Welcome. :c)

No quick way, I'm afraid. How you handle it from here on depends on what you intend to do with it? Place on DVD?

THen you have 2 options - re-encode it to a lower bitrate and/or resolution.

Or AUTHOR the DVD with the over-sized video and transcode it with a program such as DVDShrink.

For future reference: there's a bitrate calculator on this site to help you target the proper size to start with.

sorry - takes me a long time to fix typos

if you have a authoring pogram that can author a dual layer disk .. you could go ahead and create your project and then use dvd2one or dvdshrink or something like that on the project ..

otherwise -- re-encode and use a bit rate calculator ..

No problem. :c) You don't remove anything. It sort of compresses it all. I don't know the technology behind it, but it works.

And that's probably the easiest way to go for you. :c)

You don't use it until after you have authored the DVD to your harddrive, not the mpg file itself.

    Good luck.

BJ and Gees are telling you something.
You don't have to redo it.
Lots of people go a little bit over the limit on captures.
In the old days , you had to re-do the whole thing.
Now if it's only slightly large , you just go ahead and
create your DVD anyway , and run DVD Shrink on the
result . It will magically become smaller

Edit: Of course I myself never miss , and don't have to do that

Unless it's a 3 disk XviD you set your bitrate way too high. If it's a 1 disk AVI, your jsut fooling yourself.......
