Hi there oh clever people, can anyone possibly enlighten me as to why my Nec 1100a (4xwriter) chooses not to write at 4x on most discs? It likes Arita 4x, but most others only get the 2.4x treatment. Is it the discs or maybe the drive? Any help given will be appreciated.

I would think, if you set your burn speed to MAX & your media is 4x, then it most definately burn at 4x.
What program are you using for the burn? -
I have a similar issue with this burner: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=177197&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=nec
I now use Gear DVD which does x 4. I threw Nero in the bin when it took ages to do a dvd-video. I thought it had finised - it was just initializing!!!!SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
