    Shocker,

Was just at your webpage, read your rant at angelfire.

If you want to buy a domain, check out godaddy.com. Their reg fee is around 7 bucks a year, for a 5 year reg.

You can also go to granitecanyon.com ( maybe .org, or .net) for a free secondary, and possibly, if you qualify, primary DNS )Domain Name Service.

Have you considered making your text slightly bigger? Hard to read for an old fart, specially on the dark background.

  2. I've been way to busy with school recently. Thus, the site isn't the best in terms of updates and proper html. Plus the ads REALLY bring it down. I have a site that will provide free online storage, provided I have a domain name.

Thanks for the input. I think today gmatov will make the front pa

Oh yeah, and I've begun to hate the intro, so I'll get to making a new one soon, seeing most of the site is in fact done.

Is your name taken as a .net? Generally, .net was supposedly an ISP type domain, but, many times it is still available.

Name must either be fairly common, or, even more, uncommon to have been taken.

I think better you should do some thinking and dreaming to try to come up with something catchy. Not so much for a personal page, but if you try to do anything with it in future. People who know you and just want to look at what you have posted for friends will find you with your AOL name, but I doubt I would have clicked on it if it popped up in a search.

    Think, man, think!!!

  4. What your desktop is not Milton?

    How about videostaple.com?

That way, the name sounds like a good place to get info on video stuff, and has a little secret meaning for those who know about it.

Plus its easy to remember, and available. eag182.com is a litle hard to remember.

OK. g_shocker182, Since this thread title has your name on it, can I ask here? Even though it's a sort of hijack?

Can you - or someone please tell me- what is the show or movie that the red stapler (and some quotes I've seen) refers too? I haven't seen it, whatever it is. But was recently on a clothing site that - among clothing only - was selling Red swingline staplers?!

I've been scared to ask and show my ignorance. :c)

    Thanks,

    Gees

    Gees,

    Ask away.

I'd like to know too. And I'd like to know who the fat guy with the mustache is, but didn't want to ask before. Milton? Who the hell is Milton?

    Haven't the foggioest.

Hey, I'd like to know who the hell Baldrick is with the flat hat on the side of his head. Never seen him, either. I think the Swedes wore some much fancier headgear when they went to swashbuckling.

Ah, well, some things we are not destined to know.

    Craig,

You mean Baldrick, or Baldrick's avatar? The avatar is what I am curious about. With the sideways hat? Is that from Bkackadder?

Thanks for the newly restored link, Craig. :c)

I see it's not available here yet :c( It sounds so good I was going to get it straight away.

gmatov, I can tell you that Blackadder (featuring Baldrick's avatar) can often be found on PBS stations in the US. A must see, if you haven't already. :c)

    preorder placed on play.

I wonder if play would be interested in advertising on our site, or perhaps giving us discounts? i always reccomend them to people in the UK....

    Good idea, Flan

Yeah discounts to DVDrhelp members who reach them through this site - and/or part proceeds to the site itself.

I hadn't seen that site 'til Craig's posting and they have good prices and free shipping.

I pre-ordered too, but was disappointed about the date - hoped I could get it as a little extra birthday pressie for my husband 'cause it looks like he'd love it too.

Thinking.. wonder if Baldrick has a way to show all instances of links. That'd be a great way to market advertising. The simple act of allowing links to businesses is, no doubt, increasing their sales.

Well, namewise, you might be in a pickle, if there's nothing available descriptive of you.

Your name, all variations, lastname first, initials, a memorable number? State, even?

I presume you want this mainly for family/friends? A link in the sig of your e-mail?

Be aware, if you do go with your AIM address, if you ever want to change it, you can't. You may be able to redirect, but they don't allow name changes, have to register a new domain. At 7 bucks a year, no big deal, but a few years down the road, even more names will have been taken.

Of course, they have been making new Top Level Domains. Have you checked the other TLDs?

  18. New to domain registering, what are TLDs?

I have had that s/n for ~4 years, so thats why I thought of it. I think I'll just go with something like...well..i guess I don't know yet.

tgpo, no "for fun" movies now (yet...still working on yoru diahrea sketch ) just vacation pics like to greece and the sorts.

top level domains are the things typed at the end of an URL. Like .com, .net, .org, .us, .mil, and .edu

  20. I've never seen any domain names other than what you listed. Actually, the only other one I can think of is .biz. Who the hell would want a domain name at .biz

As for a domain name, I'm thinking of eric1X.com . This will also be my license plate number (in VA, you can have a ".COM" logo at the right of the plate for an option).

So my driving would be an advertisement for the site

    What do y'all think?

Here is a list of the generic TLD (known as gTLDs) like com, edu, org...
http://www.icann.org/tlds/ *scroll to bottom of page*

And here is a list of country codes (known as ccTLDs) like us, uk...
    http://www.iana.org/cctld/cctld-whois.htm

and just to make it complete, there is one special purpose TLD (.arpa)

    Shocker,

I don't know if this is legal, here. I don't see any registrars advertising.

The clip below ( if it works ) is the pricing structure for godaddy.com, THE low price registrar.

Go to their site and click each TLD with the name you want to see if it is taken. Use any name you want to check with, your full last name as a family site, whatever, see if it is taken, then work some other parameters in. You should find you can get something good enough that your friends/neighbors/family will be able to remember it.

    I can't upload a 5 K img file. Don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong.

Just go to godaddy and check to see if .ws (website ) is available.

Actually, they may tell you it stands for website, but according to the internet standards in place by ICANN and IANA, .ws is ment for websites from the country Western Samoa. But no one would know that LOL

You can see from the ccTLDs I posted earlier.

I went to that TLD list and did not see it, but I'm sure I heard that there's also been ".me" suffix. :c)

You know, I heard that too. It was ment for personal web pages. I also heard about .sex for porno sites. But I only heard they were suggested. My guess would be that since it actually costs money to make these new ones, no one adopted them so the idea faded away.

  28. TV was actually bought by the UK's Good Morning Television, so they had a url that even the sleepiest viewer could remember.

    www.gm.tv
