If we started a monthly video competition, who here would be interested?? Lets say that each month we gave out certain criteria for the video and you have the next month to write, shoot, and master your video. Then you submitted it and we picked the winner for each month. Reply to this message if you would be interested. It will be a great way to get your videos shown.

Sounds interesting.....
Is this website going to provide storage for them?Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
Uhhhhh....I'd have to talk with Baldrick about that one. I was planning on this being more of a user run thing, but if there is a big enough following then I'll donate what space I can.
-
Great idea. But for me... dial up = no competition. Unless I can mail a SVCD to someone
-
Even on dialup, uploading a short video shouldn't be too bad.
Should there be certain people that vote for the best in certain catagories, or should it be arranged as a poll where others vote?
I personally think that we should have a few people that vote on them, and the previous month's winner also joins the judges pannel.
A few catagories they can be voted on could be:
Style, Cinematography, Pacing, Effects, Objective (How well they followed the rules and regulations for that month), and Overall Score. -
Do they have to have blood in them?
Willtgpo, my real dad, told me to make a maximum of 5,806 posts on vcdhelp.com in one lifetime. So I have. -
Doubtfull. Once we get the okay/veto vote from Baldrick we'll start ironing out the details.
-
I agree with fmctm1sw. The quality of the finished video would be horrible for my dial-up connection to upload it. This would also cost dvdrhelp a lot of bandwidth money, but I'm all for it.

I don't know. I hear Tgpo has the monopoly on porn movies with no effects and no plot. That kinda leaves any other movie ideas in the schnitzer, if you ask me... :P
-
It is okey with me...as long as I don't have to provide any bandwitdh or storage...

What sort of things are you thinking of?
Can you name a theme to get us thinking?Regards,
Rob -
okay, example theme:
Apple switch parody. This month we want you to use all your creative juices to make a parody of the Apple switch commercials. If you're not familiar with these ads, then check out http://www.apple.com/switch. You can change the topic of the ads, but the overall look and feel must be like the Apple ads.
Possible Submitions:
Luke Skywalker buying a lightsabor
Neo buying Norton Antivirus
Bill Clinton buying Cuban Cigars - "I've tried other cigars, but you just can't beat the taste of a cuban!"
Ya'll see where I'm heading with this?? -
sounds a really good idea, could get some seriously good special effects in there (maybe even up to the "fireball" standard of tgpos original kung fu movie!).
it would also be a good way to learn new skills- if someones movie has a particularly good idea then he/she could share the technique
has anyone seen the movie clip "the matrix fart"- its the training scene from the matrix with large quantities of fart noises at very appropriate moments! for instance, Morpheous bends down to neo (farting in the process) and says "you think thats Air your breathing now??"
if one of the tasks was to create a known scene into a funny version then the above would win!!!
gr8 idea tgpo- although my skills are limited to CVD creation so it would take me a while to get better
with regards to uploading the movies, those with dial up connections could easily burn the movie onto a CD-RW and upload them from an Internet cafe couldn't they???1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website -
I think that this could help alot of people's skills. And it would be great for people who are interested in video production. So are ya'll liking this???
-
Sounds interesting. I probably wouldn't produce anything, but I'm really interested in what you guys will put out.
-
tgpo: looks good...Maybe some of our advertisers are willing to sponsor it with some prices, dvdr/ws, dvd writers, capture cards, memory or something.

The skill level is a good idea, but I dunno if we'll have enough submittions starting off to do that. Perhaps in the later months we could do that. Plus we'll be looking at more than just how the video looks. We'll be trying to look at the videos on an even playing field.
So next question. Who should the judges be? Moderaters + That Baldrick Guy??? Then every month the previous month's winner gets to be on the voting pannel??

In my mind I'm looking at this more from the standpoint of content. Anyone can use a program to do all the effects in the world, but the video will probably suck. We may come up with further guildlines, but I don't think that we should limit what programs you can use. From my eyes, the playing field between a special effects movie and a drama can be the same. I'm looking for whatever draws me into the story more, not which had a special effects budget of $100,000,000.
As for the dialup situation I can only offer the advice of this:
Know exactly what you're wanting to show.
Play around with compression.
Divx, 3ivx, and MPEG-4 codecs are your friend!!! -
OK, I'm with it..... Kind of like America's funniest home videos. More about content rather than giant hi-res files....
-
How much bandwidth/space a month do you think this will take?
-
Depends. The bandwidth shouldn't be all that much. Probably 2 or 3 GB a month, depending on # of entries and average movie size.
Space wise I'd say 300mb at max! -
For $30/month (Australian, 17.99 US) I can get 500mb space and 10GB of bandwidth.
I myself don't mind chipping in say $5-10 bucks a month to see it get off the ground so if we can raise the other $20-25 a month then we have ourselves a goer.
What does everyone think about the idea of entry fees (if prizes were involved)? -
I'd throw in some US cash flow for that. I don't really like the idea that people will have to pay to enter their movie. What if paying was not required? But you can only win the prizes if you have paid??
