Having the ability to trial several dvd burners I was appalled at the comparison between the Sonr Dru-510A and the Lite on Ldw-411S
in testing units with same media the lite-on performed 25% faster at Burning Dvd's when it came to overburning cd-r's the Sony did not even commit to this but the lite-on unit had no problems at all .

When ripping a produced movie of my own the Sony had the amazing speed of 2x to 2.3 Maximum .

when i tried the Lite-on unit its speed was 7.2 to 8.1
I was just letting people know about my quick findings and have others had similar results

Both units had the latest firmware and software implementations and both were trialled on Myrecordnow ,Nero 6, and Smartripper

He's saying it will rip a dvd at 8x, not burn at 8x.

This is because the Sony has a built-in 2x rip limitation, but the LiteOn does not. If you were to get modified firmware for the Sony that removes the limitation, you'd see much better results.

8. It will read at 12X (supposedly) - but not DVD-video, data files. They have a DSS (disk speed selector) available on their support site that allows you to change the speed. I can't remember my exact results but I think I got my rip speed up to 6 or 8 from 2 after I used the DSS program.
