  1. I have a player that will play VCD but will not play audio CDR. If a VCD is burned on a CDR, should it be compatible with my player? If not, is there a way around this inconvenience? Upon what does the compatibility depend?

  2. Look up your player in the "DVD Player" section in the left hand frame of this site. If your player is there you should get some help with compatibility there.

If your player doesn't like CDR for audio then I don't think it will like CDR for VCD. However, a number of players which are officially not compatible with CDR WILL play certain types of CDR. Many will also play CD-RW if they won't play CDR.

I have an old toshiba player which is "not compatible" with CDR, but it plays CD-RW fine, and also plays almost all silver-blue CDRs without a problem.

  4. Simple guide:

If a DVD player won't play a particular type of CD-R media, it will not do so for audio CD, VCD, SVCD, MP3-CD, etc...

Check the compatibility section and if it says your player plays VCD's, its talking about factory compressed vcd's...not home burnt. If it says it plays cd-r's or rw's, then it should play.

  6. its all to do with the laser in your dvd player. if i'm not mistaken you have to have a dual focus laser that'll read cdr/rw and factory pressed discs. asda/wallmart do an excellent deal on the pacific dvd1002 for £45 with a 3 year warranty and better still, it'll play anything you throw at it without fuss
