I just downloaded and installed the 2.7.1 firmware, but my problems still arent solved, I still cant get my dvd's to work, all other media runs fine but retail dvd's dont. Anyone else can share their experience?
*edit* Maybe anyone knows a way to get back to my original firmware, when everything still worked.

I just bought a DP-500 in the UK....and am having trouble playing retail DVDs. Not all of them, but certainly most of them
def - what are your problems? Did I miss the post where you described them?
Please - Does anyone out there have the 2.6.n firmware still?
It already feels like there ought to be a "self help" group for this machine - and I've only had it for 2 days...
Cheers.... -
I'm NOT happy.
I have gotten hold of firmware 2.6.8 for the DP-500 - but because it's already at 2.7.1 it tells me it's "100% completed" but ignores it.
Does ANYONE know a way of backing out of a firmware upgrade - or at least forcing it to load the firmware version in the drive??
As things stand, everything works fine (everything I've tried anyway) EXCEPT playing DVDs (I THOUGHT it was a DVD player :-S ) It flashes the screen at random (usually about 3 to 4 seconds) with either nothing at all (it looks like) or the correct frame but in black & white. Not good.
Has ANYONE else seen (solved???) this problem??
As per expected - can't get through to KISS.
Regards.... -
Sorry but know nothing of the kiss players but this is how you can downgrade a philips.
Maybe there is some comparison and it will help you or at least give you some ideas.

Cheers bingbong - but unfortunately (for me) the upgrades to the KISS player come as a bootable disk iso image - all I can see to do is insert the CD and switch it off/on. I'm then presented with a menu giving the option of full or partial (which means "keep user settings") update.
So - no such luxury I'm afraid.
I was hoping there would be a keypress-hack at this update menu which tells it to just load what's on the CD.
Out of interest - has anyone ever managed to actually contact KISS?
Cheers -
Things are moving on....
I have contacted KISS support - I spoke to a guy in wherever +45 is. He told me that as my problems are only with 75% (my estimate) of my retail DVDs it is probably firmware.
So - I asked how I could go back-level to make sure it was not an occurring problem with previous versions (I've tried installing 2.6.8 but it ignores me).
He told me that 2.6.5 WILL install over later versionsBUT he can't give it to me
However, he told me that back-levels of firmware are available from www.gooddvdstuff.com - so off I went.
Downloaded 2.6.5, installed it, no difference. Bummer. Went to 2.6.8 - still no good.
So - The only good news out of this is that a) KISS are contactable and b) you can get and install back level (ie 2.6.5) firmware.
I'll call KISS again tomorrow......
And I'm still looking for anyone who has seen (or, ideally, solved) this problem before....just so I don't feel so alone
Cheers. -
Oh - I was also told that firmware 2.7.3 will be out soon - ie a couple of weeks. 2.7.2 is being skipped as it's a number for a different product or something like that.
