Follow up to our post of 4 Dec 09 regarding problems with the firmware update 1.01.12 for
WD TV Live HD Media Players

We have tracked the problem to the Internet update process for WD TV Live firmware version 1.01.12. The firmware version is functioning normally, the problem intermittently occurred when using the Internet to update WD TV Live to version 1.01.12. If you've successfully installed update 1.01.12, there's nothing further you need to do.

If your product failed during the update process, we will replace it free of charge. Please contact our customer service department.

The product in stores and shipping today is functioning normally. Update version 1.01.11, and the Internet update process for 1.01.11 are also functioning normally. So if you own a product that you haven't updated, or buy a product today, you can safely update it with version 1.01.11, which is now the most current update.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

I was fortunate that I was able to exchange my bricked WD Live back to the point of sale. My colleague contacted WD this morning, and was informed that his box would be exchanged for a refurbished unit. He (my colleague) waited for WD to provide a fix, since his WD Live is past the return at point of sale date. He is sure to join many other WD Live owners that will be unhappy that their 30-40 day old product is being exchanged for a refurbished product. As many of the forums have stated, a great deal of WD Live users have purchased new units, and returned the bricked units, for WD to deal with. Appears that WD will have a large amount of units to offer as refurbished replacements.

WD has not done enough to sustain their WD Live owners, that only bricked their units, by using the WD supplied firmware.

MJA - While it is commendable that you posted this, you should have put "Live" somewhere in your subject as this is ONLY a problem for the WD TV Live line of players and has nothing at all to do with the older and cheaper WD TV line.

WD TV owners- THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU. THIS IS A WD TV LIVE PROBLEM.
