Not sure where this question belongs. I captured some .bmp stills using InterVideo's WinDVD capture feature. These .bmps are rather large(900k), and I would like to convert to smaller sized jpg, without losing the quality. Are there any good free/shareware programs that do this?
Thx

Actually, you can do this with Paint on Windows XP. Simply open up the bitmap with Paint, then save it as a jpeg. By the way, I think some quality loss is unavoidable when going from a bitmap to a jpeg.

It doesnt matter what version of windows you have to convert the file. Just go to paint, open the file, and click save as and this time just type in the filename.jpg(or whatever extention you prefer).

I would suggest not using ms paint. It is great with bmp but when you try to save as a jpg you loose alot of quality (not what you want).

If you happen to use MS Office 2000 or later, try Photo Editor. It also allows you to control the level of compression so you can decide at what point quality is degraded too much.
It is not installed by default, but running the installer again will let you install it from the Office Tools section.
