I'm about to get the Pioneer A106 and a PS2 and I'm wanting to know some basic information about PS2 burning etc. I'm primarily a linux user so any linux specific information would be appreciated. My questions are...
I've heard that DVD-R discs are better than DVD+R discs for burning PS2 games onto. Is this true?
Does it matter which speed I burn the games at?
I've noticed on newsgroups and bittorrent that a lot of the games are less than 700mb. Does this mean they are ripped or are a lot of PS2 games just CD games?
When burning DVD films it can be an arse because they can be dual layered. Are there any dual layered games for the PS2 and if so how would you burn them?
Can the PS2 read CD-RW, DVD-RW or DVD+RW?
Cheers,

hi m8,
know some of your answers...

Theoretically no, but games suffer a lot more from corruption, i have burned at 1x and 2x, but would recommend 1x.
The main thing is actually media - if you do not use good media, you will burn out your laser (i did) !!!

could be either - they could be ripped excluding movied etc. to reduce size or just cd size. From experience dvd games are about 70% cd games about 30% at the mo !!

If it is dual layer, by default is it over 4.7gb but i have yet to see one !! I have not seen any easy user software to reduce games software size.
hope that helps !!

Most PS2s that are version 5 or higher ussually will read dvd+r but versions 1-4 reduces the chance significantly of being able to use +r disks -rs always work if its good media (there are some version 1-4 that will read +rs but this is not the norm)
Most ps2s have a problem with +/-RW media if it is under a version 5
I have a version 7 and it has a laser that is in great shapr and it will read DVD+/-R and DVD+/-RW both with no problems
More info here that might be useful
