I would like to drop something in the suggestion box.
It seems like whenever something really great and new comes out, we get a lot of posts on the subject. For instance the new dual layer single sided DVD+/-R and burners. I believe that these occurances are only going to increase with more technology. A lot of times people hear this great news and are eager to share or "be the first to post" it to this site.
A suggestion to solve this is to make a small (and I mean small in the physical sense, I have no idea how much work this would take) reformatting of the site. You could shift the "Latest active forum topics" section down where there is blanck space at the bottom. And add a box called "Latest site news posts" at the top and make them sticky's. I would think just 5 to 6 lines for news posts would be sufficient. You could make them sticky's for say 2-6 weeks until after the excitement dies down.
This would need to be something visible. It wouldn't work if you add it to the bottom. More than likely people wouldn't scroll down to read it before they post. But they would probably read it if it where visible at the top.
Like I said I don't know how much work would be involved with this. It is only something to think about.

No matter what is tried - people will ignore it. (sigh)
Just like rules, stickys, and the obvious handy links to all the guides. And the search box. All at the top and plain view. Even helpful, instructive replies to most answers go overlooked and ignored.
It's a shame. Just the way lots of people are. Lazy, I guess.
I see people post a question or item that was asked 2 threads ago, within seconds or minutes. They just don't look. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

People are the same no matter where you live Gees, there will always be the lazy among us, there will always be those who are eager to help and they'll always be the ones who post 'Im sorryI can't help but maybe you should ask your question this way instead'.
It's what makes this forum so diverse and wonderful at the same time.
You'll never stop it, stop the crusade and learn to live with it.
Oh, and knowing how sensitive you are Gees it isn't aimed at you, the statement you've just made is posted every five minutes, I get tired of hearing it is all

You help people the way you see fit. I'll do the same.
How about something constructive, rather than argumentative. Talk about "getting tired of hearing it".

To para-phrase...
"no one ever reads the guides blah blah blah""lots of people are lazy blah blah blah"
What, you think because you spent thirty minutes helping me with PSP means I can't share my opinion?
I have more character than that.
Oh, and hung up on the UK/US thing?
Are you kidding me?
My point was (for the 3rd time) that people are the same wherever you are, it wasn't a reference to the fact that you met meone via the internet and flew 10k miles to marry him.
Are you kidding me?
The day people stop trying to change things for the better, whether it works or doesn't work, is I day I'd rather not wake up.
Yes, you're wonderful, you have limited knowledge in video production and you share it, as I do.
But please, don't sit there on your self-created throne with your self-made crown and pretend you spend all day posting useful information.
A third of your posts are lamenting the fact that people don't post exactly the way you want them, a third are helpful and the other third are complaints that you're a women and the overall theme of the site is male and you should be treat accordingly.

Was it the fact I included an emoticon to insinuate my intent, or the fact I said it wasn't a personal reference to you, only that every fifth post is about how people don't follow the rules and should be pistol-whipped.
"if only I could get you to read the guides""if only people would search the forum first
Maybe you've too much time on your hands.
Either way, it's water off a ducks back Gees.
Like I say, take it as you will, I'm not here to be your friend.
Do you want me to thank you again for your help, is that what you're really pissed about?
"How dare he oppose my veiws when I've done so much for him. He know my name, address and email"
I didn't oppose your views, but what the hell, I'm just a guy, right?
My apologies to the original author, sincerely

Well, I was going to reply to Gees initial comment but before I did, I looked at the thread again and can clearly see we are experiencing some spill over of issues from other threads.
At any rate, I would like to say my suggestion was not meant to eliminate all reoccurrences of hot news flashes immediately. I believe, for the most part, people posting news messages are veteran members (ie members with more than a few posts) who frequent the board. After they became accustomed to seeing a news sticky box, they would read it before they post. Will there always be people who post that do not read the box? Of course, but I believe my suggestion over time would help reduce the number of these such posts.

Spillover. I like that. :c) It's a good idea. Good feedback. I just don't think it'd work any better than the currently existing stickys and such. Who knows? Maybe I'd be amazed. :c) Doubt it. But maybe.

I'll add my .5 cents to this.... Anything that would actually cut down on those types of scattered news posts would be welcome. Maybe a big pop up that says, "Hey, everybody there is new technology coming, blah, blah blah......"SO that we won't get one or 2 new posts a day about something old, and all indifferent forums because some people don't ever go outside of their particular area. I think there were 7 different threads about the dual layer tech, I forget the exact number, but I looked them up the other day.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
Will - it's a shame this person's thread had to be scarred by this.
I won't stoop to your tactics. I wouldn't mention anything outside of this board or make assumptions about your private life.
Quote all you want from anything I've posted, but get your facts straight, do the real math, make true statements about yourself, and never place within quotes something you assume I'm thinking.
I decided not to fall for your standard operating procedure of quoting posts, naming names and then adding a quick statement like "nothing personal". It just doesn't wash. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

This is a good idea seeing how I posted one of those "Pioneer dual-layer" topics a few days ago only to have it locked.I posted the topic in Latest News after searching for a similar topic in that room.
Why was my topic locked and the other two or three topics remain open? -

Do you have evidence to backup that claim? If you are talking about French Guiana then your statement is true.
Most French came here for the fur trade and to escape religious persecution(ie Arcadians) before the US was a country.
Sorry I got off topic. -
