  1. Can someone suggest a AVI splitter that supports
    Canopus captured AVI files.

All the splitter programs in the Tools section dont support my
    canopusAVI....

and yes... I have installed the DSVD codec... still dont work...

I just wanna split it exactly in half..

ie: 50 gig to 2 equal 25 gig files.........

    Hi,

This is probably one of two problems:

Possibility 1: You've got a Type-1 DV file and your various bits of software don't like it. You should be able to find a utility to convert it to a Type-2 DV file which is more windows friendly. I think Canopus do one of these on their website.

Possibility 2: You haven't installed the correct DV codec. Maybe you've installed the free Canopus DV codec from their website. This only decodes AVI files with a FourCC code of "CDVC". If you use a different codec like Mainconcept or Panasonic, they decode "DVSD".

Choice of DV codec can be important because results can vary so much. Personally, I don't like Mainconcept's DV codec because it tries to sharpen the image and ends up introducing noise. I prefer the Canopus one instead. Here are a couple of good reads about DV codecs from doom9:

As for splitting software, I recommend using Virtualdub in "Direct Stream Copy" mode.

I really hope this is useful to you.

    Good luck.

    Ian.
