changing book type

Hi,
I just bought a Plextor 708a and when writing to 4x RW+ media I get a warning "Can't change book type to dvd-rom" Now just what does this mean ? I have several coasters available as all attempts with + media have failed.

Someone will probably come along who can help. But they'd need more info: media type, program used, what you were trying to accomplish exactly.

Supply that info in the meantime and I'm sure it will help when the board is busier. :c)

I was trying to burn a movie I had ripped with "Shrink" I was using "Decriptor to burn the TDK DVD+R 4x. In the details section after it starts it says "can't change book type to dvd-rom" but continues to finsh after 10 or so minutes. When I try and read the dvd it will not read any files in windows xp explored and of course wil not play. I was under the impression that + and - media were somewhat interchangeable. Using the same software I can burn fine using Memorex DVD-R 2x.

Any help wll be greatly appreciated as I bought 25 of the DVD+R disks

As you said, it is just a warning. The program is telling you that your drive doesn't support changing the book type. That is not what is causing your coasters. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the problem is. TDK is good media and Decrypter is good for burning.

There are several versions of Nero that have issues with the Plextor and DVD+R media. So if you're using Nero get one of the few versions that is supposed to work, preferable 6.0.0.11.

I just went to the Plextor homepage and saw a firmware update for a fix using nero. I d/l and installed it. I am not using nero however.

It is weird.
DVD Decrypter has nothing to do with booktypes.
In fact its the only burning software that does not even touch the booktype when writing ISO to a DVD+RW.
And the Plextor 708 is not capable of bitsetting.

Can you post this log of DVD Decrypter?

DVD Shrink creates VIDEO_TS but DVD Decryper writes ISO images only
