I'm not new to this, but before I try yet another DVD-R media to solve the dreaded DVD player pauses when playing back a DVD-R movie disk, can somebody explain a simple question
Comparing media, it seems that they are all screaming how compatable Ritek G04 disks, and G04 ink is, so that sounds good to me, plus checking various DVD media test sites seems to point to the Ritek G04 ink as being Grade A, top quality, worth the extra cost, which I don't mind paying for reliabilty, for my purposes
Now, they also state that certain disks use the Ritek ink, but are overprints... This is what is puzzling me ........
Why make a point of a disk being/not being an overprint if it uses the same super-quality G04 ink base, so should meet the same specs
I assume an overprint is simply a disk that, for whatever reason, has been reprinted with a different top surface. So will this make the disk slightly heavier, and could introduce more 'wobble' which could lead to slightly more errors than non-overprinted disks ?
Thanks for the help, again

Hi Steptoe,
As far as I can tell, reprints/overprints are DVD-+R(W) media which have had one logo/print printed over with another.
I have heard that Ritek have overmanufactured some brands of disk and therefore had to overprint them - This is how Arita media has come about.
The bad thing about them is that they have to be manually handled for extra time and are therefore more likely to be subject to finger prints on the media.
I saw this explanation on a UK media shops website this week
Cant remember which one - sorry.... -
yeah as said before, usually there has been a mistake in the printing, so they give the top a nice new design. The discs are usually fingerprinted and maybe scored.
They are usually much cheaper, but I personally wouldn't touch them. -
Thats what I thought, so I'll pay the extra, which is still roughly the same price as what my local computer shop sells the Mirror x4 25 spindle at, just have to wait for the reliable ???? Royal Mail .. hah, hah, to deliver
The Mirror are okay, but refuse to play on my standalone if burnt at x4, won't recognise the disk, and with 2 movies on a single DVD-R, the 2nd movie starts skipping/pausing gettings closer to the edge of the disk
Which is the main reason for trying Ritek G04's, which they claim are the best on the market becuase of the dye they use, and the fact they are labelled as Grade 'A' untouched
