i am trying to capture my movie from my camcorder and i want to write it to a dvd cd using my dvd writer.
my questions here are:
1. what format do i need to capture my movie to get the best dvd quality? avi, mpeg, wmv?
2. once i capture the movie, what do i do next?
3. how do i edit out some parts of the movie before i write it out to a dvd cd?

First it depends what kind of camcorder you have! Digital or Analog!
Digital will do DV through a firewire connection and is best quality.
Any will do analog though a composite connection, and many have S-video also. For this you need a capture device. I suggest an ATI AIW Radeon type card.
That is the second step to making a dvd cd, the first step is to read through the guides to the left in the guides section
Once you get a basic idea of how to make a dvd cd, then look through the tools section also. Lots of good tools listed with fully working 30day free demos and user comments. Also lots of Free tools listed.
Look for capturing first, since that's the first thing you need to do! Get the movie onto the hard drive! Again this depends if your dong DV or Analog caprtures and any device you have for capturing. Look for info on what you have.
Read more guides to decide what format you want your files in, and the types of program you'll be using and settings you need! All dvd cd output will eventaully be the same when burning the dvd cd disk, however there are many ways to get to that point!
Then you edit if you are going to. What do you mean by editing? That can be anything from cutting out a comercial, to changing sound tracks, adjusting colors, adding logos, or many other major options!
If your just planning to cut out a few things and that's all, if doing analog captures you can capture directly to mpeg2 files and skip alot.
Then if you are working with an AVI file you need to endcode to a mpeg2 file. Most people use tmpgenc plus for this.
THEN you take the mpeg2 file and author it to a dvd, that gives you the needed files, .ifo .bup .vobs in a folder called VIDEO_TS, plus you have an empty folder called AUDIO_TS. Tmpgenc DVD author is a good tool for this!
Then you burn both folders to make your dvd cd
2. once i capture the movie, what do i do next?
Also you need to make sure your mpeg2 file is dvd cd compliant, rather you capture directly to mpeg2 or convert to it latter with an encoder.
Many programs like Tmpgenc dvd cd author will ot open non-compliant files. And if some program does and makes the idsk it may not be readable in a dvd cd setop player after burning.
