I have been a daily visitor to this web page and its forums for the past year or so, i have read a lot, learned a lot and realize how little i know.

In spite of this, I have managed to successfully create backup VCD's, XVCD's of low bit rate, and only yesterday, my first SVCD. This was due to the fact that my misguided purchase of a samsung dvd player did not allow me to play anything much, apart from dvd's and standard vcd's.

Having studied the dvd player review page, I went out at the weekend and purchased a little AMW V101 player, looking for something that would play most backup formats.

Best thing i ever did, 35 bucks from circuit city, 5 hours of dvd2avi and temgenc, and i was watching my first SVCD.

The quality was superb, 2 pass vbr, 300-2500 bps, put jumanji onto to cdr's, and the AMW V101 played it flawlessly. I would reccomend the V101 to anyone, although i don't know how long it will last.

Additionaly, i have managed to convert some of my hi8 home videos to vcd using the free tools and guides posted on this site, i am limited to this standard because of my pc hardware performance.

So, once again, all you need to know about video conversion and backup methods is on this site somewhere, you just have to look. It makes me cringe when i see people posting help help help, only to ask how they can copy a dvd.

    Keep up the good work.

    Congratulations, Kinrade! :c)

I hope your post is an inspiration to all Newbies. There's nothing wrong with Newbies. We all start as one.

But reading through everything you can get your eyes on, giving things a try, and then posting when you hit a roadblock, is an admirable way to do things.

Even better? A first post that includes a thank you!

I, personally, wish you continued success and lots of fun doing it.! :c)
