Is it possible to do multisession in dvd-r as in cd?

If you're talking data, yes it could be possible-depending on what software you have available. In this respect, DVD-RAM and DVD+R/W have a much better time of it than DVD-R/W, but it should still be "possible".
If you're talking video, as in THE DVD-VIDEO spec, NO! Included in the specifications is the requirement that the VIDEO_TS folder and files reside in a microUDF file system. microUDF requires that there be NO multisession. Some DVD+R/W systems seem (I'm not sure about this) to be claiming multisession capability with the +VR format, but this certainly would be going down the path of lesser compatibility.
