When I select a VIDEO_TS folder on my hard drive for the source video, and then click play, the mplayer window comes up, but there is no sound. It also effects encoding (to mpeg4 specifically) - the audio is not encoded.

However if I issue the following command on the command line:

    /usr/bin/mplayer -dvd 1 -dvd-device ~/Movies/VIDEO_TS

I get audio and the whole bit. Whats going on here?

After fiddling with it some more I got the audio to work but noticed this picularity:

If you type in the name of the folder (instead of using the open button, which IMO is faster) it doesn't update something.

It would be nice to be able to type in the path of the input/output files without worry of this.

  3. You mean that the list of available audio tracks is not shown when typing the input filename? By the way, you should consider to drag and drop the file to the application icon.

Yes, the list of audio tracks does not appear.

Also something further I noticed when playing around with it:

The first time you open the application and use the "open..." button to select a DVD folder, it doesn't get the audio tracks.

Dragging the folder onto the application icon does not help.

Only by playing around with the application (e.g., opening various video files) does it eventually recognize that there are audio tracks to the DVD folder). I cannot figure out a predictible way of getting it to recognize the audio tracks.

I keep answering my own questions so here we go again:

The DVD folder that you point ffmpegX to must be name VIDEO_TS. It cannot be named MY_MOVIE or something like that. That is what is causing a lack of audio.

However if you do something like:

    mplayer -dvd 1 -dvd-device ~/Movies/MY_MOVIE

It will play with sound. It will also encode audio if you type in the correct commands.

  6. Yes, for VIDEO_TS folder input the folder must be named VIDEO_TS.
