  1. hey y'all i just recently purchased the tdk 440n 4x dual format burner. i bought some compusa 1x dvd-r's and was wondering if its ok to use these? im using dvd x copy xpress to burn my movies and it doesn't allow you to choose what speed. so far with the 2.4x dvd-r's i haven't been able to get them to play properly. they start to lag and skip in the middle. is there a way to choose what speed to burn?? thanks

  2. If you buy 1X discs they will work, but you must burn them at 1X. I don't know what program you use so telling you how to burn them at 1X could be complicated.

actually, you do NOT have to burn at 1x.... i myself have a dru500ax burner, and i burn those exact same compusa dvd's at 2x just fine.... some people in this forum dont know what they are talking about

CompUSA media is made by at least two or three different factories. I have some that burns at 1X only, and some that will burn okay at 2X in my DRU-500AX. The 1X ones are made by Lead Data and the 2X are Optodiscs (both are labeled as 1X on the package though). Supposedly you can tell which ones you're getting by the way they're packaged.

hey, metaluna.... thats interesting! i had bought two 10 packs of their dvd-r's and they all burned at 2x just fine..... then a few weeks later i got a 50 pack of the 1x discs, and they would not burn at 2x, no matter what i did....so i took them back..... how can you tell which ones can be burnt at 2x, by the packaging??

That's a good question! My experience is exactly the opposite of yours...the ones that burn at 1x for me (Lead Data) were the 10 packs, and the 2x (Optodisc) were in a 50 pack! I'm using 2.0f firmware, but I've also tried the drive with the hacked Liteon LDW-400D 1.2d firmware with the same results.

I'm not the expert on this (if you do a forum search you should find some better data) but there are at least 4 package types that have been reported to have different -R media in them

10-pack in greyish/black cardboard box: Lead Data
10-pack in soft plastic wrap: ???? Possibly Prodisc or Princo?
10-pack in hard plastic wrap: ????
50-pack spindles w/green label: I got Optodiscs, I don't know if this is true for everyone.

Also, a while back I bought a 25-pack 2.4x +R spindle and it was Optodisc.

  10. Be careful if you are buying those CompUSA disks. I got 3 spindles of 50. 2 worked fine, then the 3rd one kept dying at about 98%. Then I got dvdinfo pro and saw they were all Princo. So I took them all back and just started going with the ritek g04, cause i don't want my collection dying in a few months. Anyway, use Nero and RecordNow max and you will have no problems burning at any speeds your burner supports. I don't know about dvdxcopy. i was using it, but you can't copy a copy, so i didn't really like that.
