I'm wanting to make a menu for a disc of TV episodes. My plan was to cut a short clip from one of the episodes and have that play immediately, then it kinda fades into the menu or something.Doesn't matter anyway. What I want to do is on the actual menu, when you select the episode I want something like

    Episode 1
    > Episode 2
    Episode 3

With the > next to the currently selected episode. And there'll be a little box that plays a clip from the episode when the > is next to it. Can this be done? What software will allow it?

This might seem a bit ambitious for a home made menu, I don't know. But I want to give it a go anyway, if possible.

    Thanks

  2. Tmpgenc dvd author can do this. Very easy and self expanatory. Do a search in the guides section I am sure someone has wrote one for this.

DVDLab can do fancy menu tricks.

There's a tutorial on the mediachance site that explains almost exactly what you want to do.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

  4. Its possible, I have done it before but it is a little tough. I guess it depends on what software that you use.

    I have used...

    Maestro to Author
Premiere 6.5 to cerate teh actual motion menus

Create your motion menu in Premiere and export. For each highlight or motioned section you must create a different video.

    Import into Maestro.

Drop into menu section and use autoaction to change from different menus.

I know that this is a half-ass answer, but this really needs a tutorial. I can write it, but it will take some time. I have plenty of other projects at hand right now. Message or e-mail me for a reminder in a week.

This Ulead DVD Workshop tutorial written by Douglass Spotted Eagle seems to explain how to do what you've described:

Yes, Workshop can perform the first part of what you want.

And there'll be a little box that plays a clip from the episode when the > is next to it. Can this be done? What software will allow it?
But it can't do that. Not any easy way that I've discovered.

if you set up DVD Lab with "force action" buttons and a separate motion menu for each episode?

    so when you go from:

    >>episode 1
    episode 2

    to

    episode 1
    >>episode 2

you are actually forcing a new menu, with the motion clip for the episode? it would be the same as the switched menu from the Mediacance.com tutorial, but with motion menus...

Yes, that's exactly what I recommended, Housepig. :c)

I was pointing out that Specialist said DVDWorkshop can do it, but that's incorrect.

I'd love to be able to use DVDlab, but still find stuttering problem on releases so far. It does seem to work well for many, though. So I must just be unlucky. :c*

Or ??? were you saying there is some hidden feature in Workshop that I have yet to discover? (hope hope!) :c)

Jerry told me that Ulead can do anything. I've been very disappointed.

Gave DVD lab a go, but it doesn't work to well. It's insisting that the menu clip runs for 10 seconds, so the result is my video is sloooowed down.

Downloaded DVD Menu Studio, seems good except I can't find a feature to incorporate a video clip in a little box like I'd done with DVD Lab.

    Oh well, will keep fiddling.
