First off, I am a newb so please forgive my ignorance.
I have a JVC 521 DVD player which is hooked up via optical cable to my Game Theater XP sound card. I want to be able to playback dvd's using my computer's speaker setup. However, in my GTXP control panel it says S/PDIF Copy Protection under the digital in bar in the mixer panel, and the audio is garbled. What does this mean? Is there a way to hookup my dvd player to output through my sound card? Please help.

depends on the controls on your player - check for something called SCMS, Serial Copy Management System (pronounced "scums") which is probably screwing up your playback.
on pro-level equipment, like DAT recorders, you can generally turn it off so you can make digital copies - don't know about your player, though.- housepig
