im looking to purchase a dvd burner for my laptop. im looking so far at the pioneer 106d. but that is an internal burner. i saw on ebay that a lot of the burners are just internal ones with a separate external enclosure. since internal burners are a lot cheaper, im looking to just get an external enclosure. how good are these? do they have any problems or disadvantages?

There are a few threads on this subject. General opinion is it works fine. Get a box with the Oxford chipset. And don't buy it on Ebay, you never really know what you are getting.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
I would expect it would work just fine. I have used the CoolMax Enclosures for Harddrives and they work great. I plan to get one for the 106 in the future. Here is one I would suggest. Not the cheapest but it has a cooling fan etc. and is well built.

There are some I got from Amazon.com which works with the Mac and PC and are great. Lava or something.
